Runaway (Bill Champlin Album)
''Runaway'' is an album by Bill Champlin, released on Elektra Records in 1981. It is notable as containing "Tonight Tonight", Champlin's minor hit as a solo artist, as well as "Sara", which also achieved a degree of chart success. History The album was released as component of Champlin's development of his solo career, following his longtime association with the Sons of Champlin. Champlin's first solo album, ''Single'', had been released in 1978, on Full Moon Records, following Champlin's departure from the Sons of Champlin in 1977. ''Runaway'' was also released in the same year that Champlin commenced a near thirty-year association with Chicago. According to Champlin, ''Runaway'' prompted his decision to join Chicago, due to the record executive overseeing his project leaving Elektra on the day of its release. Bill Champlin
William Bradford Champlin (born May 21, 1947) is an American singer, musician, arranger, producer, and songwriter. He formed the band Sons of Champlin in 1965, which still performs today, and was a member of the band Chicago from 1981–2009. He performed lead vocals on three of Chicago's biggest hits of the 1980s, 1984's " Hard Habit to Break" and 1988's "Look Away" and "I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love". During live shows, he performed the lower, baritone, vocal parts originated by original guitarist Terry Kath, who had died in 1978. He has won multiple Grammy Awards for songwriting. Early career As a child, Champlin demonstrated a talent for piano and eventually picked up the guitar after being inspired by Elvis Presley. Tom Kelly (musician)
Thomas F. Kelly (born April 16, 1952) is an American musician, best known for his songwriting partnership with Billy Steinberg. Steinberg and Kelly co-wrote numerous hit songs for popular music artists, including five number-one singles on the ''Billboard'' Top 100 chart in the 1980s. Early life Originally from Indiana, Kelly lived in Effingham, Illinois from 1963 to 1966, before moving back to West Lafayette, Indiana where he graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1967. Kelly attended Eastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Purdue University, but dropped out of college to pursue his music career. He played bass guitar and sang in several bands throughout Illinois and Indiana in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the Trifaris, the Gaping Huggers, the One Eyed Jacks, and the Guild. Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro (; April 1, 1954 – August 5, 1992) was an American drummer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work with the rock band Toto but is one of the most recorded session musicians in history, working on hundreds of albums and thousands of sessions. While already an established studio player in the 1970s, he came to prominence in the United States as the drummer on the Steely Dan album ''Katy Lied''.
