Rumsey Street
Rumsey Street ( Chinese: 林士街) is a street in Sheung Wan on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. It begins at Wing Lok Street near COSCO Tower, crossing Des Voeux Road Central and Connaught Road Central, and reaches the Victoria Harbour. Name The street was named in 1905 after Robert Murray Rumsey, the Harbour Master of Hong Kong Government. Features Wing On Department Store is located at the street. Beneath the street is the unused MTR platform of Rumsey station. The station was for an abandoned plan of East Kowloon line. The platform was later incorporated into Sheung Wan station. Sheung Wan
Sheung Wan is an area in Hong Kong, located in the north-west of Hong Kong Island, between Central and Sai Ying Pun. Administratively, it is part of the Central and Western District. The name can be variously interpreted as ''Upper District'' (occupying relatively high ground compared to Central and Wan Chai), or ''Gateway District'' (perhaps a reference to the location where the British first entered and occupied Hong Kong). History Sheung Wan was one of the earliest settled places by the British, and belonged to the historical Victoria City. The site of the original occupation of Hong Kong Island by British forces in 1842 was at Possession Street, between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. The Cosco Tower () is an office tower in the Grand Millennium Plaza in western Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. The tower has a total structural height of 228 m (748 ft). Connaught Road Central
Connacht ( ; ga, Connachta or ), is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Victoria Harbour
Victoria Harbour is a natural landform harbour in Hong Kong separating Hong Kong Island in the south from the Kowloon Peninsula to the north. The harbour's deep, sheltered waters and strategic location on South China Sea were instrumental in Hong Kong's establishment as a British colony in 1841 and its subsequent development as a trading centre. Throughout its history, the harbour has seen numerous reclamation projects undertaken on both shores, many of which have caused controversy in recent years. Environmental concerns have been expressed about the effects of these expansions, in terms of water quality and loss of natural habitat. A harbourmaster (or harbormaster, see spelling differences) is an official responsible for enforcing the regulations of a particular harbour or port, in order to ensure the safety of navigation, the security of the harbour and the correct operation of the port facilities.
