Ruhul Quddus Babu
Md. Ruhul Quddus (born 7 December 1962) is a Bangladeshi justice of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Early life Quddus was born on 7 December 1962. Career Quddus completed his B.A. LL.B. and M.S.S. at University of Rajshahi. He was elected the General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Central Students Union. A case of murder was filed against him and others in November 1988 on the charge of killing a leader of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Islamist political party Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, at the university. Quddus started working as a lawyer on 19 April 1993 and became a member of the Bangladesh Bar Council. On 29 September 1996, he became a lawyer of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. On 15 January 2009, Quddus became a lawyer of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. Mohammad Fazlul Karim (born 30 September 1943) is a Bangladeshi jurist who served as the 18th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. Early life Karim was born on 30th September 1943 in Chittagong, East Bengal, British India. Karim graduated from the University of Dhaka with a law degree. Career From 1965 to 1992, Karim was a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. On 15 June 2001, Karim was made a Judge on the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. Karim was the Chief Justice from 8 February 2010 to 30 September 2010 as the 18th chief justice of Bangladesh. His predecessors M. M. Ruhul Amin and Md. Tafazzul Islam became Chief Justices superseding him. In April 2010, he refused to administer the oath of office to two nominees, Md. Khasruzzaman and Md. Ruhul Quddus, to the High Court Division. Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body in Bangladesh, established under the Legal Practitioners and the Bar Council Order. It is the licensing and regulatory body for lawyers in Bangladesh. The bar council can establish tribunals to investigate and prosecute complaints against lawyers. In 2019 there were five such tribunals. A tribunal may reprimand or suspend a lawyer or remove them from practice. It dealt with 378 complaints from 2014 to 2018. Nine lawyers have lost their license permanently and 6 were suspended for a limited period of time.
