Ruhul Amin (film Director)
Ruhul Amin ( bn, রুহুল আমিন; born 1971) is a Bangladeshi-born British film director. Early life Amin was born in Sylhet District, Bangladesh, and came to Britain with his parents in the early 1980s while he was a teenager. While he was at school, he made his first documentary-drama, ''Prubo London''. He attended the National Film and Television School. Career In 1986, Amin made his first feature film for Channel 4 television entitled ''A Kind of English''. Amin has made 15 films for the BBC and Channel 4. Most of them are documentaries and experimental dramas. He is currently making an epic Bengali feature film ''Hason Raja'' based on the based on the life and music of the folk poet, mystic philosopher and songwriter of the same name played by Mithun Chakraborty, produced by Galaxy Films between UK, India and Bangladesh. Sylhet Division
Sylhet Division ( bn, সিলেট বিভাগ) is the northeastern division of Bangladesh. It is bordered by the Indian states of Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura to the north, east and south respectively, and by the Bangladeshi divisions of Chittagong to the southwest and Dhaka and Mymensingh to the west. Prior to 1947, it included the subdivision of Karimganj (presently in Barak Valley, India). However, Karimganj (including the thanas of Badarpur, Patharkandi and Ratabari) was inexplicably severed from Sylhet by the Radcliffe Boundary Commission. According to Niharranjan Ray, it was partly due to a plea from a delegation led by Abdul Matlib Mazumdar. Etymology and names The name ''Sylhet'' is an anglicisation of ''Shilhot'' (শিলহট). ''Hason Raja'' () is a 2017 Bangladeshi film directed by Ruhul Amin, starring Mithun Chakraborty and Raima Sen. Plot The film is about Hason Raja, a flamboyant, ruthless ''zamindar'' (aristocrat) from Sylhet, who falls in love with Dilaram, who transforms him. He later becomes a poet, singing songs and wandering all across Bangladesh. Hinduism, Buddhism and Sufism influenced his songs. He was the inspiration of the Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, who mentioned Raja at several conferences worldwide and he remains one of the greatest and most powerful icons of Bengali culture today. Mithun Chakraborty (born Gouranga Chakraborty; 16 June 1950) is an Indian actor, producer and politician who predominantly worked in Hindi and Bengali language films. Dewan Hason Raja Chowdhury, or simply known as Hason Raja ( bn, হাসন রাজা; 21 December 1854 – 6 December 1922), was a Bengali mystic poet and songwriter from Sylhet, Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh). His unique style of music made him one of the most prominent figures in Bengali folk culture.
