The women's rugby sevens tournament at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was the first time that women's teams had participated in this event. The venue for the competition was Robina Stadium. Background Pool stage Wales qualified on 9 July 2017 after placing fifth at the 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series. The pools were confirmed on 2 February 2018, scheduling was announced on 23 February 2018. Robina Stadium
Robina Stadium, also known by its sponsored name Cbus Super Stadium, is a rectangular football stadium in the Gold Coast suburb of Robina, Queensland. The main usage is as the home ground to the National Rugby League's Gold Coast Titans; this venue sometimes hosts the A-League team Brisbane Roar FC. Robina Stadium is also used for Rugby Union, Soccer, Rugby Sevens, Rugby league Test Matches and has hosted Rugby league World Cup matches. Construction of the venue started in 2006, and finished in February 2008, in time for the 2008 National Rugby League season, when it became the new home of the Titans. Rugby sevens at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held on the Gold Coast, Australia from April 13 to 15. The rugby sevens competition was held at Robina Stadium. This is the sixth time that the men's competition was held, following rugby sevens's debut at the 1998 Games, with women's rugby sevens making its debut. The 2016–17 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the fifth edition of the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series (formerly the IRB Women's Sevens World Series), an annual series of tournaments organised by World Rugby for women's national teams in rugby sevens.
