Rugby Club Walferdange
Rugby Club Walferdange, known as "De Renert",Named for Michel Rodange's epic poem of that name. is a francophone rugby union club, based in Walferdange, in central Luxembourg. Luxembourg has no domestic league of its own, so ''De Renert'' plays in the German Regional Leagues. Walferdange is the second Luxembourg rugby club alongside Rugby Club Luxembourg. The club was founded in 1990. Luxembourg Rugby Federation
Luxembourg Rugby Federation (french: Fédération Luxembourgeoise de rugby) is the governing body for rugby union in Luxembourg. It was founded in 1974 and became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1991. Luxembourg Rugby team plays its matches at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg-City. Luxembourg are ranked 59th (on October 12th, 2019) in the world according to the International Rugby Board. Walferdange ( lb, Walfer ; german: Walferdingen) is a commune and small town in central Luxembourg. Geography The commune of Walferdange is located north of Luxembourg City in the valley of the Alzette. It is part of the canton Luxembourg. The town of Walferdange lies in the center of the commune, other towns within the commune include Helmsange and Bereldange. History The commune of Walferdange was formed on 1 January 1851, when it was detached from the commune of Steinsel. The law forming Walferdange was passed on 25 November 1850. Although the commune first came into existence in 1851, there is evidence of prehistoric settlement as well as remains of a very large Roman villa. The Raschpëtzer Qanat, an underground aqueduct near Helmsange was built in the 1st century AD during the Roman occupation. It is said to be the longest qanat north of the Alps. Stade (), officially the Hanseatic City of Stade (german: Hansestadt Stade, nds, Hansestadt Stood) is a city in Lower Saxony in northern Germany. Rugby Club Luxembourg, abbreviated to RCL, is a rugby union club, based in Cessange, Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. Luxembourg has no domestic league of its own, so RCL plays in neighbouring countries' leagues; they currently play in the German Rugby-Bundesliga, having previously competed in the Belgian and French National Leagues. The club has grown rapidly in recent years, and now has over 500 members. Based at Stade Boy Konen, in Cessange, the club is looking to expand to two or three pitches to relieve excessive usage of Boy Konen. The Luxembourg national rugby union team is a minor team, and is ranked as a third tier nation. The team participates in the annual Rugby Europe Championship Conference 2 North 2017–18 Rugby Europe Conference. Since 1996 Luxembourg also competes in the sevens circuits in Europe Luxembourg national rugby sevens team.
