Rudsgrendi or Rugsgrend is a village in Notodden Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The village is located on the western shore of the large lake Tinnsjå, halfway between the village of Gransherad and the town of Rjukan. On the opposite side of the lake lies the village of Hovin. The village of Tinnoset lies about to the south. Hovin, Telemark
Hovin is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It was created on 1 January 1886 by a split from Gransherad. Gransherad, which consisted of the parishes Hovin and Gransherad, had already been formed as a border adjustment between Tinn and Hjartdal in 1860. Hovin parish had 815 inhabitants in 1860, and the new municipality had a population of 885 in 1886. On 24 March 1903 an uninhabited part of Tinn was moved to Hovin by royal resolution. On 1 January 1964 the district of Rudsgrendi with 21 inhabitants was incorporated into Notodden municipality to the east. The rest of Hovin, with 461 inhabitants, was incorporated into Tinn. Tinnsjå
Tinnsjå ( eng, Lake Tinn), also called ''Tinnsjø'' and ''Tinnsjøen'', is one of the largest lakes in Norway, and one of the deepest in Europe. It is located between the municipalities of Tinn and Notodden in Vestfold og Telemark county. At its source in the west, the Måna river flows out of Møsvatn and past Rjukan into Tinnsjå. From the north, the river Mår flows from the Mår, Gøystavatn, and Kalhovdfjorden lakes into Tinnsjå. Tinnsjå is part of the Skiensvassdrag, and drains via the Tinnelva river in the south, down to Heddalsvatn. In 1944, during the German occupation of Norway, the ferry SF ''Hydro'' was sunk in Tinnsjå by the Norwegian resistance. The Germans were using the ferry to transport a large quantity of heavy water to Germany, where it was to be used for nuclear weapon research. Gransherad Municipality
Gransherad is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway, located north-west of the city Notodden. ''Grandsherred'' was created in 1859 by the merger of the parishes Hovin in Tinn and Gransherad in Hjartdal. On January 1, 1886 Hovin was separated from Gransherad to form a municipality of its own. The split left Gransherad with a population of 1,393. On 1 January 1964 the district of Øvre Jondalen with 132 inhabitants was moved to Kongsberg in Buskerud county. Tinn
Tinn is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Rjukan. The parish of ''Tin(d)'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Hovin is a village in Tinn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The village is located just up the hill from the eastern shore of the large lake Tinnsjå. Rjukan
Rjukan () is a town and the administrative centre of Tinn municipality in Telemark, Norway. It is situated in Vestfjorddalen, between Møsvatn and Lake Tinn, and got its name after Rjukan Falls west of the town. The Tinn municipality council granted township status for Rjukan in 1996. The town has 3,386 inhabitants (January 2007). History Rjukan was formerly a significant industrial centre in Telemark, and the town was established between 1905 and 1916, when Norsk Hydro started saltpetre (fertilizer) production there. Rjukan was chosen because Rjukan Falls, a 104-metre waterfall, provided easy means of generating large quantities of electricity. The man with the idea to use the Rjukan falls was Sam Eyde, the founder of Hydro.
