Rucker is a former unincorporated community in Santa Clara County, California, located halfway along the five miles of Monterey Highway between Gilroy and San Martin. The name is official, but not in common use among locals today. Its elevation is listed as 235 feet above mean sea level (AMSL) and NAD27 coordinates are given as . Supporting the name are local geographic features, ''Rucker Avenue'', ''Rucker School'' (K-6), and ''Rucker Creek''. The community was part of the Mexican land grant Rancho San Francisco de las Llagas. References corroborate use of the name in 1933 to describe a siding on what is now the Union Pacific Railroad, Coast Subdivision. Rucker is an unincorporated community located in Comanche County, in the U.S. state of Texas. History The community was named for Calvin Rucker, who established a gin there in 1890. The first mail carrier was Ira Harvey, while the first postmaster was Bob Lewis. The community's population was 25 in 1940. A filling station named Lightfoot that opened in 1930 was the only business in Rucker in 1976. It continued to be listed on county maps in 1990. Ruckers
The Ruckers family (variants: Ruckaert, Ruckaerts, Rucqueer, Rueckers, Ruekaerts, Ruijkers, Rukkers, Rycardt) were harpsichord and virginal makers from the Southern Netherlands based in Antwerp in the 16th and 17th century. Their influence stretched well into the 18th century, and to the harpsichord revival of the 20th. The Ruckers family contributed immeasurably to the harpsichord's technical development, pioneering the addition of a second manual; the quality of their instruments is such that the name of Ruckers is as important to early keyboard instruments as that of Stradivarius is to the violin family. In the 18th century, Ruckers instruments were often modified by French makers in a process known as ''ravalement'', to allow for an extended range and other additions.
