Ruby City (San Antonio)
Ruby City is a contemporary art center in San Antonio, Texas. Founded by Linda Pace and housing her collection of contemporary art, the museum opened in 2019. The building was designed by David Adjaye. Entrance is free. Ruby City's director is Elyse A. Gonzales. Linda Pace
Linda Pace (17 April 1945–2 July 2007) was an American artist, food magnate, heiress, and philanthropist who founded Artpace. She was born to parents who owned Pace Foods and took over the company with her husband Christopher “Kit” Goldsbury, before selling it to Kit after divorcing him. Pace created Chris Park in her home town of San Antonio, in memory of her son Chris, who died of a drug overdose in 1997. Early life and education Linda Pace was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 17, 1945 to father David Earl Pace and mother Margaret Emma (Birth name, née: Bosshardt) Pace. Her mother was an artist and parents were the owners of Pace Foods. Her maternal great-aunt was Emma Koehler, the German-American businesswoman behind Pearl Brewing Company. David Adjaye
Sir David Frank Adjaye (born 22 September 1966) is a Ghanaian-British architect. He is known for having designed many notable buildings around the world, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Adjaye was knighted in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to architecture. He is the recipient of the 2021 Royal Gold Medal, making him the first African recipient and one of the youngest recipients. He was made a member of the Order of Merit in 2022. Early life and education Adjaye was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The son of a Ghanaian diplomat, he lived in Tanzania, Egypt, Yemen and Lebanon before moving to Britain at the age of nine. Artpace
Artpace is a non-profit contemporary art gallery located in San Antonio, Texas, United States, founded by Linda Pace. Artpace opened its doors in 1995, and focuses on the artistic process. Occupying the space of a former Hudson automobile dealership, Artpace uses its industrial space as the setting for its programs and events. International artist-in-residence program Artpace is known for their International Artist-in-Residence program, which involves bringing one artist from Texas, one from the United States, and one from around the world, to Artpace to create an original work of art. The International Artist-in-Residence artists are chosen by a guest curator and the program invites nine artists per year to live and work at Artpace in three different four month cycles.
