Rubroboletus Haematinus
''Rubroboletus haematinus'' is a bolete fungus of the genus ''Rubroboletus''. First described scientifically in 1976 by Roy Halling as a species of ''Boletus'', in 2015 it was transferred to ''Rubroboletus'', a genus circumscribed the year previously to contain other allied reddish colored, blue-staining bolete species. Roy Halling
Roy Edward Halling (born December 31, 1950, in Perry, Iowa) is an American mycologist. Halling specializes in the study of mushroom-forming fungi, especially the taxonomy, ecology, and systematics of the Boletineae, a suborder of the Boletales, and is widely published in this area. He is currently emeritus curator of mycology at the New York Botanical Garden, and was an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Halling received his master's degree from San Francisco State University in 1976, with a thesis titled "The Boletaceae of the Sierra Nevada", under the supervision of Harry Delbert Thiers. His PhD was from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in 1980 with a dissertation titled "The genus ''Collybia'' in New England. His supervisor was Howard E. Bigelow. {{refimprove, date=July 2020 A bolete is a type of mushroom, or fungal fruiting body. It can be identified thanks to a unique mushroom cap. The cap is clearly different from the stem. On the underside of the cap there is usually a spongy surface with pores, instead of the gills typical of mushrooms. However, there are some boletes that are gilled, such as species of ''Chroogomphus'', '' Gomphidius'', ''Paxillus'', ''Phylloporus'' and ''Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca''. Rubroboletus
''Rubroboletus'' is a genus of bolete fungi in the family Boletaceae. It was circumscribed by Chinese mycologists in 2014 with '' Rubroboletus sinicus'' as the type species. Species are characterized by having a reddish cap surface, yellow tubes on the underside of the cap, and an orange-red to blood-red pore surface. Pinkish to red spots (reticula) are present on the stipe surface, and a bluish color change occurs when the bolete flesh is injured. ''Rubroboletus'' mushrooms have an olive-brown spore print, and produce smooth spores. Eight species were included in the original circumscription (seven new combinations and one new species); five were added in 2015, and another in 2017. ''Boletus'' is a genus of mushroom-producing fungi, comprising over 100 species. The genus ''Boletus'' was originally broadly defined and described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753, essentially containing all fungi with hymenial pores instead of gills. Since then, other genera have been defined gradually, such as ''Tylopilus'' by Petter Adolf Karsten in 1881, and old names such as ''Leccinum'' have been resurrected or redefined. Some mushrooms listed in older books as members of the genus have now been placed in separate genera. In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. If we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in Genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in Genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Another systematist might determine that T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z all belong in genus A. Agreement on circumscriptions is not governed by the Codes of Zoological or Botanical Nomenclature, and must be reached by scientific consensus.
