Royel Otis
Royel Otis are an Australian guitar-pop duo from Sydney. The band was formed in 2019 by Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic. They released three EPs, including '' Sofa Kings'', before their debut studio album, '' Pratts & Pain'', was released in February 2024. History Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic had known of each other around the Byron Bay area before Pavlovic sent Maddell some demos in 2019, with Pavlovic claiming this was "the collaboration he'd been chasing his whole life". The band's name is a combination of the first names of Maddell and Pavlovic, respectively. In October 2021, the duo released their debut EP ''Campus''. This was followed in August 2022, with ''Bar n Grill''. Their third EP '' Sofa Kings'', released in March 2023, peaked at number 43 on the ARIA Charts following its physical release in July 2023. ''Sofa Kings'' is the third extended play by Australian guitar-pop duo Royel Otis. It was announced in January 2023 alongside its second single, and released on 31 March 2023. Following its physical release in July 2023, the EP peaked at number 43 on the ARIA Albums Chart. At the 2023 ARIA Music Awards, the EP earned the duo a nomination for Breakthrough Artist. At the AIR Awards of 2024, the album was nominated for Best Independent Rock Album or EP. The Official New Zealand Music Chart ( mi, Te Papa Tātai Waiata Matua o Aotearoa) is the weekly New Zealand top 40 singles and albums charts, issued weekly by Recorded Music NZ (formerly Recording Industry Association of New Zealand). ''Like a Version'' is a weekly segment on Australian youth radio station Triple J. It involves Australian and international artists playing two songs live in the Triple J studio, one of their own songs (an "original") and then a cover version, hence the name of the segment. The title is wordplay on the Madonna song " Like a Virgin". It was created by Mel Bampton as part of the ''Mel in the Morning'' program. The segment was later moved to Robbie Buck's Drive program, and then to the Breakfast Show. Due to the intimate nature of the studio, the performance is often acoustic or otherwise stripped-back, however some bands have stretched this concept. The segment has grown in popularity over the years, leading to the release of compilation CDs featuring the best covers. Some particularly well-received covers have also made it into the Triple J Hottest 100.
