Royal River Conservation Trust
The Royal River Conservation Trust (abbreviated RRCT) is a volunteer-run conservation group based in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. Established in 1988 and funded by its members, it owns many preserves and trail networks, and has assisted in the creation of town-owned parks and preserves, state parks and state wildlife-management areas. The trust, one of eighty land trusts in Maine, covers seven towns and cities in Androscoggin County and Cumberland County which form the watershed of the Royal River: Yarmouth, North Yarmouth, Pownal, New Gloucester, Gray, Durham and Auburn. The trust's executive director is Alan Stearns, while its president is Emily Sneath Jones. Pineland Farms
Pineland Farms is a 5,000-acre farm and recreational property in the eastern part of New Gloucester, Maine. It is partly on the site of the former Pineland Hospital and Training Center. History In the early part of the 20th century, the State of Maine purchased six farms in New Gloucester, Maine, which became known as Pineland Farms. The purpose of this purchase was to build the Maine School for the Feeble Minded on part of the land and continue farming on the rest of it. West Side Trail
The West Side Trail is a multi-use trail in Yarmouth, Maine. A Town of Yarmouth project conceived in 1988 and opened in 2014, the trailhead for the eastern portion of the trail is in the parking lot of Tyler Technologies, on Tyler Drive, on the eastern side of U.S. Route 1, immediately before the exit 15 northbound on-ramp to Interstate 295 (I-295). The trailhead for the western section is in the park and ride lot at the southbound exit 15 ramp for I-295, to the west of Route 1. Phase one 500 volunteer hours were put into the project, headed by Dan Ostrye of Yarmouth's town trail committee. In 2010, Ostrye signed a lease agreement for the town with Central Maine Power so that the trail could be run through woods and meadows on Cousins Island and over the causeway to woods on CMP property on the mainland. Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village
Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village is a Shaker village near New Gloucester and Poland, Maine, in the United States. It is the last active Shaker community, with two members . The Cousins River ( Native American: ''Sisquisic'') is a , primarily tidal river in southern Maine. Rising in the town of Freeport at the junction of Harvey Brook and Merrill Brook, it flows south and forms, for most of its course, the boundary between Freeport and Yarmouth. Bradbury Mountain
Pownal is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,566 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pownal is home to Bradbury Mountain State Park. History Originally the northwest portion of Freeport, it was first settled in 1680.
