Royal Hobart Golf Club
The Royal Hobart Golf Club is a golf club in Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania, Australia, near Hobart. It hosted the Australian Open in 1971 when American Jack Nicklaus was the winner. It also hosted the Tasmanian Open (1968, 1976, 1980, 1986, 1991, and 2003), Australian Amateur (1968, 1974, 1987, 1993, 2000, and 2006), and Australian Women's Amateur (1968, 1978, 1990, and 1997). Jason Day in capturing the Australian Amateur Championship winner in 2006 held at the Royal Hobart Golf Club, shot the course record of 64 to break the course record previously held by Jack Nicklaus. On 5 April 2021 the outgoing club pro Simon Hawkes, shot a new course record of 61 which was highlighted by an albatross on the iconic 9th hole. Seven Mile Beach is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Clarence in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census recorded a population of 1286 for the state suburb of Seven Mile Beach. History Seven Mile Beach was gazetted as a locality in 1966. Mathew Charles Goggin (born 13 June 1974) is an Australian professional golfer. Amateur career As an amateur, he won the 1995 Australian Amateur, played at Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne, Victoria, 2 & 1 over American Jamie Crow. He also won the 1995 Tasmanian Amateur, played at Seabrook Golf Club in Wynyard, Tasmania, over fellow Tasmanian Peter Toogood. Peter Toogood
Peter Alfred Toogood, (11 April 1930 – 5 June 2019) was an Australian amateur golfer from Tasmania. He won the Australian Amateur in 1954 and the Tasmanian Open eight times. He was the leading amateur in the 1954 Open Championship and was part of the team that won the inaugural Eisenhower Trophy in 1958. Early life Toogood was born in North Adelaide, South Australia on 11 April 1930. His father, Alf Toogood, had recently been appointed professional at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide. He was the grandson of Alfred Toogood, Sr. As an 8-year-old he made a hole-in-one at the 7th hole at Kingston Beach Golf Club.
