The Royal Danish Agricultural Society (Danish language, Danish: Det Kongelige Danske Landhusholdningsselskab, DKHL) was founded in 1769. History The Royal Danish Agricultural Society was established on 29 January 1769 at the initiative of J. H.E. Bernstorff's protegé Martin Hübner (1723–95). The inspiration came from similar societies in other European countries, including Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce in England (1753), Société Royale d'Agriculture de la Généralité de Tours (1760) and Société Royale d'Agriculture de la Généralité de Paris (1761) in France, Fürstlich-Anhaltische Deutsche Gesellschaft (1761) in Preussen, Imperial Free Economic Society for the Encouragement in Russia of Agriculture and House-Building in Russia (1765) and Academy of Agriculture, Commerce and Arts of Verona in Italy (1879). Niels Johannes Fjord
Niels Johannes Fjord (27 April 1825 – 4 January 1891), often referred to as N. J. Fjord, was a Danish Professor at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University. He was a pioneer in dairy and milk research in the mid-1800s. He was a driving force and the first leader of the Landøkonomisk Forsøgslaboratorium on Rolighedsvej in 1883. Education Born into an agrarian family, he graduated from Lyngby college at the age of 18 years. His desire to join the military was futile as his father was against it. Eventually, he moved to Aarhus for his education, and happened to meet PP Freuchen and Edward Tesdorpf whose lives influenced him to take up higher education. Freuchen, then the principal, instilled an interest in natural sciences to Niels and later, he went on to take up a teaching position in physics and mathematics. Ludvig Holstein-Holsteinborg
Ludvig Henrik Carl Herman Holstein, Count, Greve til Holsteinborg (18 July 1815 – 28 April 1892), was a Danish politician, landowner and noble. He was Council President of Denmark from 28 May 1870 to 14 July 1874 (4 years, 1 month, 16 days). Early life Holstein was born at Holsteinborg Castle, Holsteinborg Manor in Slagelse Municipality, Slagelse, Denmark. He was a son of Friedrich Adolph Holstein, Count of Holsteinborg, and Wilhelmine Juliane Reventlow. He was a descendant of Ulrik Adolf Holstein (1664–1737) and was the 7th Count of Holsteinborg. In 1836 he enrolled at the University of Berlin but graduated from the University of Copenhagen. Edward Tesdorpf
Edward Tesdorpf (7 September 1817 – 2 May 1889), was a German-Danish landowner, agricultural pioneer and sugar manufacturer. He became the owner of ten estates many of which were located in the Lolland-Falster area where he resided at Orupgaard near Nykøbing Falster where he founded a sugar factory in 1884. Several of the estates are still owned by his descendants, including Gjedsergaard and Pandebjerg on Falster. Early life Tesdorpf was born in Hamburg as the son of a wealthy merchant. Career He came to Denmark where he acquired Orupgård on the island of Lolland in 1840. He later acquired many other large properties, including Pandebjerg (1878) on Falster and Sædlingegård (1871) on Lolland, until he finally owned ten estates across Denmark with a total area of 2,400 hectares. He was a dynamic and innovative farmer, introducing a style of farming which was widely recognized as a model to be emulated. Frederik Treschow
Vilhelm Frederik Treschow (15 September 1786 – 2 April 1869) was a Danish supreme court attorney, politician, landowner and philanthropist. He founded Treschows Stiftelse in Copenhagen. Early life and education Frederik Treschow was born in Copenhagen to Supreme Court justice Michael Treschow (1741–1816) and Christina E. Wasserfall (1753–1823). He graduated from Roskilde Cathedral School in Roskilde in 1803 after initially attending the Metropolitan School in Copenhagen. He studied law at the University of Copenhagen under the guidance of Anders Sandøe Ørsted and graduated in 1806. Career He worked for the court, , from 1909 and became a supreme court attorney in 1811. Treschow was considered one of the best barristers of his generation. Iver is a large civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. In addition to the central clustered village, the parish includes the residential neighbourhoods of Iver Heath and Richings Park.
