Roy Smiles
Roy Smiles (born 1966) is a singer-songwriter & playwright from Ealing, West London. He is also an occasional actor. Smiles has written twenty seven theatre plays, the best known of which is Kurt and Sid, a 2009 London West End production about the fictional meeting of Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain, starring Danny Dyer & Sean Evans. He has released eight albums of songs: ''Drunks & Dreamers, Time's Moving On, Seize The Day, Autumn Song, Bremen, The Trains & The Rain, Northern Angels ''&'' Lost Souls.'' Career His first play staged in 1992 at the Battersea Arts Centre, ''Schmucks'' was about a fictitious meeting between Groucho Marx and Lenny Bruce. Court Theatre (New Zealand)
The Court Theatre is a professional theatre company based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded in 1971 and located in the Christchurch Arts Centre from 1976 until the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. It opened new premises in Addington in December 2011. It is currently New Zealand's largest theatre company, and is led by Chief Executive Barbara George and Artistic Director Daniel Pengelly. ''Pythonesque'' is a Monty Python-related play by the British playwright Roy Smiles. It is based on Python member Graham Chapman's battle with alcoholism and his death from cancer. It continues with his rise in comedy and his getting the lead in ''Monty Python and the Holy Grail'' (1975) and ''Monty Python's Life of Brian'' (1979). It was first performed in South Africa in 2008 and made its British debut at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it starred Matt Addis as Terry Jones and Michael Palin, James Lance as Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle, Mark Oosterveen as John Cleese, and Chris Polick as Graham Chapman.
