Roy Schintler
George Roy Schintler (14 June 1900 – 13 January 1977) was an Australian politician. He was born in Adelong to miner George Edward Schintler and Matilda Julia Knight. He was educated at Corryong and Albury and served in the AIF during World War I. After the war he became a tram driver in Melbourne, and around 1921 he married Madelaine Pochon, with whom he had five children. He was an executive member of the Tramways Union and joined the Labor Party around 1929. From 1943 to 1956 he served on Footscray City Council; he was mayor from 1953 to 1954. On 7 September 1946 he married his second wife, Janet Emily Bryan. In 1955 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Footscray, moving seats to Yarraville Yarraville is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maribyrnong local government area. Adelong is a small town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, situated on the banks of the Adelong Creek. Adelong sits on the Snowy Mountains Highway and is a part of the Snowy Valleys Council. At the , Adelong had an urban population of 943. Etymology Adelong's name is said to be derived from the local Aboriginal language meaning "along the way" or "plain with a river". History The area now known as Adelong lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people. In 1852 during the Australian Gold Rush, gold was discovered at Upper Adelong. Records around the time indicated a yield of 198 kg of precious metals. In 1855 Adelong was declared a gold field. Jack Holland (politician)
John Joseph "Jack" Holland (3 September 1877 – 25 December 1955) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1925 to 1955, representing the electorates of Flemington (1925-1945), Footscray (1945-1955) and Flemington again (1955). Holland was born in Carlton to police officer Thomas Holland and Johanna Quigley. He worked as a fitter and then as an electrical engineer for the Postmaster-General's Department. He was a life member of both the Australian Postal Electricians Union, serving as its secretary and president at various times, as well as its delegate to the Melbourne Trades Hall Council and the Victorian Agricultural Implement Union, of which he had been president. He was also secretary of the Flemington branch of the Labor Party from 1911 to 1932, served on the boards of a number of local co-operatives and on the Victorian Public Servants Credit Co-operative board for 35 years. Corryong is a small town in Victoria, Australia east of Albury-Wodonga, near the upper reaches of the Murray River and close to the New South Wales border.
