Roy Jackson (American Football)
M. Roy "Slab" Jackson (February 12, 1876 – January 22, 1944) was an early professional football player who played for the Duquesne Country and Athletic Club. He also served as the team's captain and coach in 1898–1900. Jackson, a fullback, scored 14 touchdowns, often on short plunges after teammates J. A. Gammons or Dave Fultz had put the ball close to the end zone. In 1898, Jackson played for Duquesne against the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars in the first pro football all-star game. During the game, he would score two of the Duquesnes touchdowns. Prior to his professional career, Jackson played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. His was the captain of Penn's 1896 and 1897 football teams and the captain of the school's 1898 baseball team. Roy Jackson (1944–2013) was an Australian contemporary artist, one of a group of artists based at Widden Weddin, Wedderburn. His work is part of the permanent collections of Artbank, the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and the National Gallery of Victoria. Early life Jackson was born in South London, England in 1944. At the age of 13 he was selected under the Tripartite System of education to attend Sutton East Technical College School of Art, one of several junior art schools run by County Councils in the post-war era. George Mackley, a master craftsman of wood engraving who had trained as a teacher of art at Goldsmiths’ College, London, was the enlightened headmaster. Roy Jackson (politician)
Roy Stanley Jackson (1895–1964) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for a single term between 1953 and 1956. He was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). Jackson was born in Balmain, New South Wales and was the son of a trade union organizer. He was educated to elementary level in state schools and initially worked as a shipwright. During World War One he served with the First Australian Imperial Force in the Middle East and France. He joined the Federated Shipwrights and Ship Constructors' Association of Australia and became a full-time official with the union after 1934. He was also a member of the executive committee of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Jackson was elected to parliament as the Labor member for Drummoyne at the 1953 election. Roy Jackson (trade Unionist)
Roy Jackson (18 June 1928 – 11 December 2010) was a British trade unionist, who served as Assistant General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). Born in Paddington in London, Jackson was educated at North Paddington Central School. He left to work for the Post Office Savings Bank, followed by a period of National Service with the Royal Navy. When released from the Navy, he won a trade union scholarship to Ruskin College, where he studied alongside Norman Willis. He then moved on to Worcester College, Oxford where he completed a degree in philosophy, politics and economics. Jackson next found work in the education department of the Trades Union Congress, and in 1964 became its Director of Studies. He wrote a report, "Training Shop Stewards", which became the official TUC line on the shop stewards' movement, and led to new approaches to training trade unionists.
