Roy Edgar Nelson
Roy Edgar Nelson (December 3, 1925 – March 26, 2012) was a Canadian provincial politician. He was the Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the constituency of Assiniboia-Gravelbourg, from 1975 until 1978. He was the first MLA for the Assiniboia-Gravelbourg district, representing the riding for a single term before losing to Allen Willard Engel of the NDP in the 1978 general election. Before entering politics, Roy Nelson served in the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War. After the war he was in business, then farmed and ranched in the Glentworth area in southern Saskatchewan. He was active within the community, serving as president of the curling rink and leading the rink building committee, president of the Wood River Legion bantam baseball league, director and vice-president of the community hall and as local branch president and zone commander for the Royal Canadian Legion. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal
The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal (SVM) is a civil decoration for volunteers in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, introduced in 1995 by the Government of Saskatchewan. Prior to the establishment of the medal volunteerism could be recognized by the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, but this is only one of the fields for which the Order is presented. The medal was established to remedy inadequate recognition of volunteerism by the provincial government. Description The medal is circular, made of silver, suspended from a V-shaped clasp. The obverse depicts the shield of the Coat of arms of Saskatchewan surmounted by St Edward's Crown. Inscribed above the shield is the motto "Nos ipsos dedimus" (We Gave of Ourselves), and below is "Saskatchewan". An ambulance is a medically equipped vehicle which transports patients to treatment facilities, such as hospitals. A volunteer fire department (VFD) is a fire department of volunteers who perform fire suppression and other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction. Volunteer and retained (on-call) firefighters are expected to be on call to respond to emergency calls for long periods of time, and are summoned to the fire station when their services are needed.
