Roy Donovan
Henry Roy Donovan (26 November 1903 – 18 February 1972) was an Australian rules footballer who played with in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Jeremiah Joseph Donovan (1864–1951) and Mary Ellen Donovan (1871–1939), nee McCormack, Henry Roy Donovan was born at Seymour on 26 November 1903. Football Originally playing with Richmond reserves, Donovan transferred to Hawthorn during the 1925 VFL season and made 9 senior appearances in two seasons at the club before breaking his ankle in a reserves match. Donovan was not retained on Hawthorn's list for the 1927 season. Seymour () is a historic railway township located in the Southern end of the Goulburn Valley in the Shire of Mitchell, Victoria, Australia and is located north of Melbourne. Donvale, Victoria
Donvale is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Manningham local government area. It is a leafy and peaceful suburb, with the side west of Springvale Road is described as an extension of the nearby Doncaster East. The side east of Springvale Rd is an area full of low density housing and huge amounts of bushland, especially south of Donvale Christian College. There is little public transportation in Donvale, relying on an old bus service. There are basically no shops in Donvale, so residents go to Tunstall Square in Doncaster East or The Pines instead. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Victorian Football League (1897–1989)
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. 1925 VFL Season
The 1925 VFL season was the 29th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The league expanded to twelve clubs, with , and all newly admitted from the VFA to increase the league's size to its highest since its inception. The season ran from 2 May until 10 October, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Geelong Football Club for the first time, after it defeated by ten points in the 1925 VFL Grand Final.
