Rowley, Alberta
Rowley is a Hamlet (place) , hamlet In Alberta, Canada within Starland County. It is located just north of Drumheller. History Less than a year before the new millennium, the last train passed through Rowley. In the mid-1970s, Rowley, which had once boasted a population of about 500 in the 1920s, was a beat-up dying community, with rows of empty houses and businesses, and inhabited by only a few dozen prairie-hardened souls. But one night, a few party-happy locals, whose liquor supply was fast dwindling, decided on a quick solution – a "B & E party" at a boarded-up old saloon. The bar was fixed up and named Sam's Saloon after one of the previous owners who had been a respected member of the community. The brazen men then got talking about sprucing up the pioneer community to make it a heritage stop for tourists. For the next quarter century, locals restored old homes and businesses, and soon visitors were attracted from all parts of Alberta, Canada and the U.S. The hig ...

Rowly
Cranleigh is a village and civil parish, about southeast of Guildford in Surrey, England. It lies on a minor road east of the A281, which links Guildford with Horsham. It is in the north-west corner of the Weald, a large remnant forest, the main local remnant being Winterfold Forest directly north-west on the northern Greensand Ridge. Etymology Until the mid-1860s, the place was usually spelt Cranley. The Post Office persuaded the vestry to use "''-leigh''" to avoid misdirections to nearby Crawley in West Sussex. The older spelling is publicly visible in the ''Cranley Hotel''. The name is recorded in the '' Pipe Rolls'' as ''Cranlea'' in 1166 and ''Cranelega'' in 1167. A little later in the '' Feet of Fines'' of 1198 the name is written as ''Cranele''. Etymologists consider all these versions to be the fusion of the Old English words "Cran", meaning " crane", and "Lēoh" that together mean 'a woodland clearing visited by cranes'. The name is popularly believed to come from i ...

Old Rowley
Old Rowley was the name of a stallion racehorse belonging to King Charles II of England, Charles II (1660-1685) of England. The Newmarket Racecourse, Rowley Mile Racecourse at Newmarket, Suffolk, developed by the king as a national centre for horseracing, is named after the horse. As the stallion was libidinous and "renowned for the number and beauty of its offspring", ''Old Rowley'' became a nickname for the king himself, who had many mistresses and sired many illegitimate children. Ballad The first verse of the old anonymous lewd ballad ''Old Rowley the King'', sung to the tune of ''Old Simon the King'', is as follows: :''This making of bastards great'', :''And duchessing every whore'', :''The surplus and treasury cheat'', :''Have made me damnable poor'', :''Quoth old Rowley the King'', :''Quoth old Rowley the King'', :''At council board'', :''Where every lord'' :''Is led like a dog in a string'. ''The Fast Show'', known as ''Brilliant'' in the US, is a BBC comedy sketch show that ran from 1994 to 1997, with specials in 2000 and 2014. The show's central performers were Paul Whitehouse, Charlie Higson, Simon Day, Mark Williams, John Thomson, Arabella Weir and Caroline Aherne. Other significant cast members included Felix Dexter, Paul Shearer, Rhys Thomas, Jeff Harding, Maria McErlane, Eryl Maynard, Colin McFarlane and Donna Ewin. Loosely structured and reliant on character sketches, running gags and many catchphrases, its fast-paced " blackout" style set it apart from traditional sketch series because of the number and relative brevity of its sketches; a typical half-hour TV sketch comedy of the period might have consisted of nine or ten major items, with contrived situations and extended setups, whereas the premiere episode featured 27 sketches in 30 minutes,Dewhurst, Keith (2007), "The Fast Show – A Personal View" (notes for ''The Ultimate Fast Show Collection'' ...
