Rowing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Qualification
The majority of qualification places for rowing at the 2012 Summer Olympics were awarded based on results at the 2011 World Championships, held at Lake Bled, Bled, Slovenia, in August and September 2011. Those places were awarded to National Olympic Committees, not the specific athletes. Rowing At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The rowing competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held from 28 July to 4 August 2012, at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, was officially termed Eton Dorney. Fourteen medal events were contested by 550 athletes, 353 men and 197 women. Great Britain was the most successful nation, topping the medal table with four golds and nine in total. New Zealand finished second with three golds and five medals overall. Venue All of the rowing events were staged at the Eton Dorney Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake near Windsor Castle, west of London. The venue has eight lanes and is 2,200 m in length with a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Qualification Each competing nation may qualify one boat for each of the fourteen events. Alan Campbell (sculler)
Alan W Campbell (born 9 May 1983) is a British sculler. Biography Alan Campbell was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, and started rowing for his school, Coleraine Academical Institution for Boys. ON leaving, he joined Bann Rowing Club Coleraine. Years later he then left for London and joined Tideway Scullers School. In 2003, Campbell left his degree and won the Diamond Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta. He then made his international debut at the World U23 Championships in 2003, where he was forced to switch from the double to the single sculls five days before the regatta when his sculling partner became ill. Despite this he finished 8th. He competed in the quadruple sculls at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing in 12th place. In 2005, Campbell won the men's single at the GB Selection Trials, and raced in the men's quad for the World Cup series, winning the bronze at Lucerne regatta.
