Rowena Sweatman
Rowena Sweatman (born 10 February 1968) is a British judoka. She competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Judo career In 1986, she won the bronze medal in the 66kg weight category at the judo demonstration sport event as part of the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Sweatman became champion of Great Britain, winning the middleweight division at the British Judo Championships in 1988. In 1994, she became the European champion at the 1994 European Judo Championships in Gdańsk, where she won the gold medal in the -66kg category. Feltham () is a town in West London, England, from Charing Cross. Historically part of Middlesex, it became part of the London Borough of Hounslow in 1965. These are the results of the women's 66 kg (also known as ''middleweight'') competition in judo at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. A total of 20 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka whose body weight was less than, or equal to, 66 kilograms. Competition took place on July 22 of 1996 in the Georgia World Congress Center. Results The gold and silver medalists were determined by the final match of the main single-elimination bracket. Repechage The losing semifinalists as well as those judoka eliminated in earlier rounds by the four semifinalists of the main bracket advanced to the repechage. These matches determined the two bronze medalists for the event. The British Judo Championships are held annually and feature various age and weight categories to determine the British champion. The Championships are currently held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Until 2013, the Championships were held under the title of either the British Closed Championships or the British Senior Trials. In 2013, the British Closed Championships/Senior Trials were merged with the all-age British Championships. The 2020 Championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 1986 Commonwealth Games
The 1986 Commonwealth Games ( gd, Geamannan a 'Cho-fhlaitheis 1986) were held in Edinburgh, Scotland, between 24 July and 2 August 1986. They were the second Games to be held in Edinburgh. Thirty two of the eligible fifty nine countries (largely African, Asian and Caribbean states) boycotted the event because of the Thatcher government's policy of keeping Britain's sporting links with apartheid South Africa.
