Carvel William "Bama" Rowell (January 13, 1916 – August 16, 1993) was an American professional baseball player. In Major League Baseball, he was a second baseman and outfielder for the Boston Bees/Braves (1939–41 and 1946–47) and Philadelphia Phillies (1948). Rowell was a native and lifelong resident of Citronelle, Alabama. He batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Newton Rowell
Newton Wesley Rowell, (November 1, 1867 – November 22, 1941) was a Canadian lawyer, politician and judge, as well as a lay leader in the Methodist Church. Rowell led the Ontario Liberal Party from 1911 to 1917 and put forward a platform advocating temperance. Rowell's Liberals failed to oppose the Whitney government's passage of Regulation 17 which restricted the teaching of the French language in schools and alienated the province's French-Canadian minority. Life and career Rowell was born in London Township, Ontario. He ran for the House of Commons of Canada in the 1900 federal election but was defeated in York East. Returning to his law practice, Rowell was made King's Counsel in 1902. He became senior partner in his law firm (Rowell, Reid, and Wood) and had a prominent legal career. David Rowell & Co. was a company based in Westminster, London that fabricated wrought iron and wire rope, built suspension bridge, suspension footbridges, and structural steel frame buildings. They were established in 1855 and closed in 1970. History The Company was formed by David Rowell in London in 1855 initially trading as a fencing business but diversifying into structural steel frame buildings. It built various bridges between 1903 and 1951. The Company was liquidated in 1970. Wire rope and wrought iron Surviving catalogues from 1885 describe David Rowell & Co. as ''"The Iron, Wire, Wire-rope and Fencing Company"'', while a catalogue from 1890 describes their strained wire fences and wrought iron gates. William Rowell
William Irvine Rowell (19 June 1869 – 17 December 1916) was an English businessman and a sportsman who played rugby union for Cambridge University and first-class cricket for the university team as well. He was born at Singapore and died at Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex. Rowell was educated at Marlborough College and Jesus College, Cambridge. He was captain of cricket at Marlborough and was tried in trial matches and a few first-class games for Cambridge University in each of his first three years at the university from 1888 to 1890, without achieving any real success. The 1891 season, Rowell's last at the university, went in much the same direction with a few unsuccessful games, after which he was dropped from the university team; but towards the end of June he was picked for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team to play ''against'' Cambridge University and scored 53 as an opening batsman, more than the whole Cambridge team mustered in their first innings. Victoria Rowell
Victoria Lynn Rowell (born May 10, 1959) is an American actress. She began her career as a ballet dancer and model before making her acting debut in the 1987 comedy film ''Leonard Part 6''. In 1990, Rowell joined the cast of the CBS daytime soap opera ''The Young and the Restless'' as Drucilla Winters, her signature and longest role on television, for which she was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards. Edward Michael Rowell (15 June 1876 – 21 July 1965) was a professional athlete, and an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of William Rowell (1836-1903), and Johanna Rowell (1833-1900), née Ahern, Edward Michael Rowell was born in the Victorian goldfields, at Vaughan, on 15 June 1876. He married Rachel Johnston (1891-1970), at Footscray, Victoria on 4 March 1908. Early life As a teenager in the 1890s Rowell was attracted to the goldfields in Western Australia and as a youngster was proficient in cricket, foot running and Australian rules football. Sydney Rowell
Lieutenant General Sir Sydney Fairbairn Rowell, (15 December 1894 – 12 April 1975) was an Australian soldier who served as Chief of the General Staff from 17 April 1950 to 15 December 1954. As Vice Chief of the General Staff from 8 January 1946 to 16 April 1950, he played a key role in the post-Second World War reorganisation of the Army, and in the 1949 Australian coal strike. However, he is best known as the commander who was dismissed in the Kokoda Track campaign. As a young officer, Rowell served at Gallipoli but was invalided back to Australia with typhoid fever in January 1916. The end of the war found Rowell junior in rank to his contemporaries with more distinguished war records, but he managed to catch up in the post-war period. Sarah Rowell
Sarah Louise Rowell (born 19 November 1962) is a British former long-distance runner. Born in Hostert, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, she ran 2:39:11 at the age of 20 at the 1983 London Marathon. Later that year she won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 1983 Universiade in Edmonton. At the 1984 London marathon she improved her best to 2:31:28 to qualify for the British team for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the inaugural women's Olympic marathon, she finished 14th. She broke the British record when running her personal best for the marathon with 2:28:06, when finishing second behind Ingrid Kristiansen at the 1985 London Marathon.
