Route 666 (comics)
''Route 666'' was a comic book series published by American company CrossGen Entertainment starting from July 2002. Written by Tony Bedard and drawn by Karl Moline, it was CrossGen's first horror comic venture, and contained a blend of action, menace and humor. It ended at issue #22 in June 2004, as part of CrossGen's bankruptcy. Setting ''Route 666'' takes place on the fictional planet of Erebus in a country called The United States of Empyrean, which mimics the innocent feel and the actual mindset, lifestyles and technology of the 1950s era of own Earth's United States of America. Ongoing Series
In comics, an ongoing series is a series that runs indefinitely. This is in contrast to limited series (a series intended to end after a certain number of issues thus limited), a one shot (a comic book which is not a part of an ongoing series), a graphic novel, or a trade paperback. However, a series of graphic novels may be considered ongoing as well. The term may also informally refer to a current or incomplete limited series with a predetermined number of issues. Characteristics An ongoing series is traditionally published on a fixed schedule, typically monthly or bimonthly but many factors can cause an issue to be published late. CrossGen
Cross Generation Entertainment or CrossGen was an American comic book publisher and entertainment company that operated from 1998 to 2004. The company's assets were acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2004, and designated to Disney Publishing Worldwide. In July 2010, Disney re-established the brand through Marvel Comics, who announced plans to revive CrossGen titles. History CrossGen Comics, Inc., was founded in 1998, in Tampa, Florida, by entrepreneur Mark Alessi. In 1999, the company acquired the Orlando-based multi-genre fan convention MegaCon, from founder James Breitbiel. Breitbiel became CrossGen's Marketing and Distribution Director. Appolyon (CrossGen)
''Negation'' was a comic book series published from CrossGen. Tony Bedard was the writer for the entire run. Paul Pelletier was the artist for most of the issues, with an occasional fill-in artist on some issues. The series started with the ''Negation Prequel'' in late 2001. 27 regular issues followed the prequel. The series concerned a group of different alien races that had been taken prisoner and brought to the Negation universe. A number of the prisoners had innate superhuman powers while many, like Obregon Kaine, were ordinary humans. His tactical military experience made him able to lead the prisoners. He masterminded the plan that allowed a number of his fellow prisoners to escape the prison planet all of them were being held in. The series details the adventures which Kaine and the rest had in Negation space. The series ended with issue #27. Tony Bedard
Antony J. L. Bedard is an American writer and editor who has worked in the comic book industry from the early 1990s through the present. He is best known for his work at CrossGen Comics, where he was under exclusive contract, and for his run writing Marvel Comics ''X-Men'' spin-off '' Exiles''. Background Back in Tony's college days at the Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity he would write comic book characters for all of the brothers. His personal character was Tonan the Barbarian, who he posed as in his 1989 composite photo while the President of the Fraternity. Career Tony began his work in the comics industry by working at Valiant Comics as an intern. There he worked his way up, first by lettering some of Valiant's comics and eventually becoming the editor and writer of several titles including ''Rai'', '' Psi-Lords'' and '' Magnus Robot Fighter''. Karl Moline
Karl Moline is a comic book artist and the co-creator (along with Joss Whedon) of Fray. He provided the artwork for Fray, as well as the associated Fray-centric story in Tales of the Slayers. In 2001 he signed an exclusive contract with CrossGen where he pencilled the horror book Route 666. Following CrossGen's closure, he returned to mainstream comics providing pencils on a 2004 run of Marvel's Rogue and partnering with writer C. B. Cebulski on Marvel's limited series The Loners. In 2008 he returned to Dark Horse and Buffy to pencil the Fray storyline in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight #16-19 "Time of Your Life". Mark Alessi
Mark Albert Alessi (August 28, 1953 – March 29, 2019) was an American businessman who was the CEO of a number of companies, most notably as the founder of comic publisher CrossGen where he created a number of the titles. Biography Alessi's first major company was Technical Resource Connection, Inc, which he founded in 1986. He was CEO of this company until 1996, at which time the company was sold to Perot Systems Corporation. He later, in 1998, became founder and publisher of CrossGen comics, which subsequently liquidated in 2004 and the company and its assets were sold to Disney. He then became the CEO of TOA Solutions, Inc, a company that he founded in 2004. He died of a sudden massive coronary arrest on March 29, 2019, at the age of 65. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. Cold War
The Cold War is a term commonly used to refer to a period of geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc.
