Highways
A highway is any public or private road or other public way on land. It is used for major roads, but also includes other public roads and public tracks. In some areas of the United States, it is used as an equivalent term to controlled-access highway, or a translation for ''autobahn'', '' autoroute'', etc. According to Merriam Webster, the use of the term predates the 12th century. According to Etymonline, "high" is in the sense of "main". In North American and Australian English, major roads such as controlled-access highways or arterial roads are often state highways (Canada: provincial highways). A total of twelve special routes of U.S. Route 79 exist, divided between the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas. Currently, they are all business routes, except for one bypass of Humboldt, Tennessee, and one bypass of Homer, Louisiana. Former Taylor business route Business U.S. Highway 79-B began at the intersection of mainline US 79 and SH 95 in southern Taylor. The business route travelled northward along Main Street, concurrent with SH 95, and intersected FM 112. It then turned to the east along 4th Street to rejoin mainline US 79 at the city limits. The business route through Taylor was originally designated on January 20, 1966 as Loop 427; on March 1, 1972, the western terminus extended north to Lake Drive. On October 6, 1972, the route had been designated to serve as a full loop around the city. The northern terminus is at PA 27 near Bradleytown. The route parallels US 322 before turning north past a few rural homes. New York State Route 73 (NY 73) is a state highway located entirely within Essex County, New York, in the United States. The highway begins at an intersection with NY 86 in the village of Lake Placid and ends at a junction with U.S. Route 9 (US 9) north of the hamlet of Underwood in the extreme southwestern corner of the town of Elizabethtown. NY 73 meanders through a mountainous region of Adirondack Park and passes by several named peaks, including Porter Mountain and Lower Wolfjaw Mountain. Along the way, the route has a short concurrency with NY 9N in the town of Keene. It extends for from its western terminus at an intersection with NY 14 in the town of Southport, south of the city of Elmira, to its eastern terminus at an interchange with I-86/ NY 17 in the town of Chemung. Nevada State Route 427
State Route 427 (SR 427) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Nevada. It connects the community of Wadsworth in eastern Washoe County to the city of Fernley in western Lyon County. SR 427 comprises the former routing of U.S. Route 40 (US 40) through the towns it serves. SR 427 also provides an eastern link to Pyramid Lake via a junction with State Route 447 in Wadsworth. Route description SR 427 begins at a cattleguard on Cantlon Drive just south of the Wadsworth/Pyramid Lake interchange (Exit 43) on Interstate 80 (I-80) in Washoe County. The highway proceeds northeast from there to meet State Route 447 in the middle of Wadsworth. The route curves southeast through the town and immediately enters Lyon County.
