Route 249 is a , four-lane state highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a freeway that travels from Interstate 44/ Interstate 49 (I-44/I-49) in Joplin and ending at Business I-49 (I-49 Bus.) in Carterville. The road has been built as a freeway and could be a future part of I-49 which will travel down the U.S. Route 71 (US 71) corridor. It is also possible that it will be resigned as part of a possible I-249 in the future. Route description Route 249 begins at an interchange with I-44, I-49, and US 71 east of Joplin in Jasper County, where the road continues south as I-49/US 71. The route heads north as a four-lane freeway through agricultural areas with some nearby development, coming to an interchange with Route 66/I-44 Bus. west of Duenweg. Missouri Route 66
Route 66 is a fourteen-mile (21 km) long road in southwest Missouri, USA, which had previously been U.S. Route 66 for its final six years. The highway begins at Interstate 44, passes through Duenweg, Duquesne, and Joplin, then crosses into Kansas becoming K-66. Route description Route 66 begins at the Kansas state line in Jasper County, where it continues west into that state as K-66. From the state line, the route heads northeast on West 7th Street, a four-lane divided highway also marked as "Historic Route 66". Interstate 49
Interstate 49 (I-49) is a north–south Interstate Highway that exists in multiple segments: the original portion entirely within the state of Louisiana with an additional signed portion extending from I-220 in Shreveport to the Arkansas state line, three newer sections in Arkansas, and a new section that opened in Missouri. Its southern terminus is in Lafayette, Louisiana, at I-10 while its northern terminus is in Kansas City, Missouri, at I-435 and I-470. Portions of the remaining roadway in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas, which will link Kansas City with New Orleans, are in various stages of planning or construction. Superfund is a United States federal environmental remediation program established by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA). The program is administered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The program is designed to investigate and clean up sites contaminated with hazardous substances. Sites managed under this program are referred to as "Superfund" sites. There are 40,000 federal Superfund sites across the country, and approximately 1,300 of those sites have been listed on the National Priorities List (NPL). Route 171 is a short highway in western Missouri. Its northern terminus is at the Kansas state line where it continues as K-171 near Opolis, Kansas. Its southern terminus is at the junction of Interstate 49/U.S. Route 71, Route 96 and Route 571 in Carthage. The last ten southbound miles are concurrent with Business I-49. Route description Some (about half) of those last to Carthage, from its junction with I-49 Business at Madison Ave. in Webb City, are routed in a northeasterly direction. Duenweg, Missouri
Duenweg ( ) is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,495 at the 2020 census. It is located within the Township of Joplin, a minor civil division of Jasper County, and is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located just to the east of the City of Joplin. Interstate 44 and Interstate 49 run concurrently across the southeast corner of town, and Business Loop 44 runs through the center of town. History While the Osage tribe inhabited the general region previously, European-American settlement started in the year 1855, when two brothers, Elijah C. and James C. Webb, from Overton County, Tennessee, moved to the area. Interstate 49 (I-49) is an Interstate Highway in the US state of Missouri that was designated on December 12, 2012. It overlaps U.S. Route 71 (US 71) in the western part of the state, beginning at the Arkansas state line, and ending at I-435 and I-470 on the southeast side of Kansas City. Upon completion, the highway will connect Kansas City to Texarkana, Arkansas, and Shreveport and Lafayette, Louisiana.
