The album was released on July 10, 2020 by Nonesuch Records label. Background This release is this quartet's first recording since 1994’s '' MoodSwing''. Brian Blade
Brian Blade (born July 25, 1970) is an American jazz drummer, composer, session musician, and singer-songwriter. Early life Blade was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. The first music he experienced was gospel and songs of praise at the Zion Baptist Church where his father, Brady L. Blade Sr., has been the pastor for fifty-two years. In elementary school, music appreciation classes were an important part of his development and at age nine, he began playing the violin. Inspired by his older brother, Brady Blade Jr., who had been the drummer at Zion Baptist Church, Blade shifted his focus to the drums throughout middle and high school. Joshua Redman
Joshua Redman (born February 1, 1969) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He is the son of jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman (1931–2006). Life and career Joshua Redman was born in Berkeley, California, to jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer and librarian Renee Shedroff. He is Jewish. He was exposed to many kinds of music at the Center for World Music in Berkeley, where his mother studied South Indian dance. Some of his earliest lessons in music and improvisation were on recorder with gamelan player Jody Diamond. He was exposed at an early age to a variety of musics and instruments and began playing clarinet at age nine before switching to what became his primary instrument, the tenor saxophone, one year later. This is a concept album, interpreting eight compositions taken from a suite written by Patrick Zimmerli. The album was released on 4 October 2019 by Nonesuch Records. Background On the album, Joshua Redman plays alongside the string quartet with his trio of Scott Colley on double bass and Satoshi Takeishi on drums. Brooklyn Rider quartet includes violinists Johnny Gandelsman, Colin Jacobsen, Nicholas Cords, and cellist Eric Jacobsen. The album features eight tracks taken form Zimmerli's suite "Aspects of Darkness and Light" that tries to address visual effects through sound. Brad Mehldau
Bradford Alexander Mehldau (; born August 23, 1970) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Mehldau studied music at The New School, and toured and recorded while still a student. He was a member of saxophonist Joshua Redman's Quartet with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade in the mid-1990s, and has led his own trio since the early 1990s. His first long-term trio featured bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy; in 2005 Jeff Ballard replaced Rossy. These bands have released a dozen albums under the pianist's name. John Gall (born 1963 in New Jersey), is an American graphic designer known primarily for the design of book covers. He is a graduate of Rutgers University. Gall is currently the creative director of Alfred A. Knopf. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Piano
