Roulhac High School
T. J. Roulhac High School was a public secondary school in Chipley, Florida. It served as the high school for black students until the public schools were integrated in 1968. History Chipley Colored School was founded in 1938. It was for a short time known as Washington County Colored School. Two thirds of the funding came from the Jeanes Foundation program known as the Negro Rural School Fund, and one third from the Washington County School Board. It was housed in various churches. In 1941, the school was renamed for its founder and first principal T.J. Roulhac. The existing buildings were constructed starting in 1950. In 1968 with desegregation, grades nine through twelve were discontinued and the school renamed Roulhac Middle School. Jeanes Foundation
The Jeanes Foundation, also known as the Negro Rural School Fund or Jeanes Fund, helped support education and vocational programs for African American in rural communities from 1908 to the 1960s. It was founded by Anna T. Jeanes with help from Booker T. Washington in 1907. About The Jeanes Foundation supplied the structure and the method to hire teachers for African Americans in rural communities. Teachers in the program were called supervising industrial teachers, Jeanes supervisors, Jeanes agents, or Jeanes teachers. These teachers had a broad latitude to decide what areas to focus on in their individual communities. It was also understood that community needs were different and teachers' methods would vary. Chipley High School is a public high school located at 1545 Brickyard Road in Chipley, Florida. Previously, the school was located on 2nd Street until 2000, when the present school was built on Brickyard Road. Spanish Trail Playhouse is located there today. Artis Gilmore (born September 21, 1949) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and National Basketball Association (NBA). Gilmore was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on August 12, 2011.
