Charles Marie Benjamin Rouget
Charles Marie Benjamin Rouget (19 August 1824 – 1904, Paris) was a French physiologist born in Gisors, Eure. He studied at the Collège Sainte-Barbe with medical training at hospitals in Paris. He was later a professor of physiology at the University of Montpellier (1860). From 1879 to 1893, he was a professor of physiology at the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris. Rouget is largely remembered for his correlation of physiology to microscopic anatomical structure. Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle (), sometimes spelled de l'Isle or de Lile (10 May 1760 – 26 June 1836), was a French army officer of the French Revolutionary Wars. He is known for writing the words and music of the ''Chant de guerre pour l'armée du Rhin'' in 1792, which would later be known as ''La Marseillaise'' and become the French national anthem. Early life Rouget de Lisle was born at Lons-le-Saunier, reputedly on a market day. His parents lived in the neighbouring village of Montaigu. A plaque was placed at the precise spot of his birth and a statue erected in the town's center in 1882. He was the eldest son of Claude Ignace Rouget (5 April 1735 – 6 August 1792) at Orgelet and Jeanne Madeleine Gaillande (2 July 1734 – 20 March 1811). Georges Rouget (26 August 1783 – 9 April 1869) was a neoclassical French painter. Life After studying in the École des Beaux-Arts, Rouget entered David's studio in 1797 and rapidly became his favorite student. Rouget began his professional career as his master's main assistant until David's exile to Brussels, collaborating with him on the canvases '' Bonaparte at the Grand-Saint-Bernard'', ''The Coronation of Napoleon'' (of which he made a copy signed by David), ''Leonidas at Thermopylae'' and on one of the three copies of the '' Portrait of Pope Pius VII''. Though he won the second prize in the Prix de Rome contest in 1803, he failed three times to win the first prize. James Rouget (15 April 1866 – 10 June 1924) was an Australian politician. He was born in Yering to farmer John Rouget and Susan Le Page, both of whom were from Guernsey. He grew up in Wandin and became an orchardist, and on 28 November 1894 married Anne Blanksby, with whom he had seven children. He later worked as a secretary at the Evelyn Preserving Company, rising to the position of general manager. He served on Lillydale Shire Council from 1901 to 1922, with three terms as president (1906–1907, 1909–1910, 1918–1919). Julio José Iglesias Rouget (born 26 September 1972) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Avilés, Asturias, Iglesias spent most of his professional career in the second division, with two stints in La Liga: in the 2001–02 season he appeared in 16 games for CD Tenerife, which were relegated, and played second-fiddle to Albano Bizzarri in the following campaign, playing no matches for Real Valladolid. Château Rouget is a Bordeaux wine from the Appellation d'origine contrôlée, appellation Pomerol. The winery is located on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in the commune of Pomerol in the department Gironde. As all wine produced in this appellation, Château Rouget is unclassified but the estate has been historically estimated among the great growths of the region. Rouget is situated adjacent to Château La Croix-de-Gay. The estate also produces a second wine Clocher de Rouget. History A leading estate according to early editions of ''Cocks & Féret'', the estate belonged to the mayor of Pomerol in 1804. It was bought by Marcel Bertrand in 1925 who passed on management of the estate to his nephew François-Jean Brochet in 1974.
