Erich Rothe
Erich Hans Rothe (July 21, 1895, Berlin – February 19, 1988, Ann Arbor, Michigan) was a German-born American mathematician, who did research in mathematical analysis, differential equations, integral equations, and mathematical physics. He is known for the Rothe method (also known as the method of lines or the method of semidiscretization) used for solving evolution equations. Biography Rothe, whose father was a lawyer, attended Berlin's ''Königliches Wilhelms-Gymnasium'' and passed his ''Abitur'' in October 1913. After completing two semesters at the University of Munich, he volunteered to join the German Army in a field artillery regiment. David Rothe (1573 – 20 April 1650) was a Roman Catholic Bishop of Ossory. Life David Rothe was born in 1573 in High Street Kilkenny. Richard Rothe (28 January 1799 – 20 August 1867) was a German Lutheran theologian. Biography Richard Rothe was born at Posen, then part of Prussia. He studied theology in the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin (1817–20) under Karl Daub, Schleiermacher and Neander, the philosophers and historians G. W. F. Hegel, Friedrich Creuzer and F. C. Schlosser exercising a considerable influence in shaping his thought. From 1820 to 1822 he was in the clerical seminary at Wittenberg. Rudolf Ernst Rothe (15 October 1873, Berlin – 26 October 1942, Berlin) was a German applied mathematician. Biography After graduating from the Sophien-Gymnasium in Berlin, Rothe studied from 1892 under Hermann Amandus Schwarz, Johannes Knoblauch, Lazarus Immanuel Fuchs, and Ferdinand Georg Frobenius at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Heinrich August Rothe (1773–1842) was a German mathematician, a professor of mathematics at Erlangen. He was a student of Carl Hindenburg and a member of Hindenburg's school of combinatorics. Biography Rothe was born in 1773 in Dresden, and in 1793 became a docent at the University of Leipzig. He became an extraordinary professor at Leipzig in 1796, and in 1804 he moved to Erlangen as a full professor, taking over the chair formerly held by Karl Christian von Langsdorf. He died in 1842, and his position at Erlangen was in turn taken by Johann Wilhelm Pfaff, the brother of the more famous mathematician Johann Friedrich Pfaff. Rudolph Rothe (18 October 1802 – 30 January 1877) was a Danish landscape architect who was awarded the high-ranking title of ''etatsråd'' for his achievements. Talented in both the practical and theoretical aspects of landscape gardening, he exerted considerable influence on the development of the art in Denmark.
