Roswell A. Parmenter
Roswell A. Parmenter (September 20, 1821 – February 1, 1904) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life Roswell A. Parmenter was born in Pittstown, New York, on September 20, 1821, the son of Dr. Azel Fiske Parmenter (born 1786) and Lavina (Ray) Parmenter. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and practiced in Troy. He was City Attorney of Troy from 1853 to 1854, and from 1871 to 1883. He was a member of the New York State Senate (12th D.) in 1874 and 1875. Pittstown is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 5,735 at the 2010 census. It is in the northern part of the county. A small part of the northern town line is Rensselaer County's border with Washington County. Moving west, the Hoosic River defines the town's northwestern line to the crux of its border with the town of Schaghticoke, which juts south to form the western town line. The towns of Brunswick and Grafton border to the southwest and southeast, respectively, with the town of Hoosick to the east. Thomas Coleman (June 16, 1808 – August 29, 1894) was an American merchant, banker and politician from New York. Life He was born on June 16, 1808, in Barnstable, Massachusetts, the son of Nathaniel Coleman (c.1781–1848). He attended the common schools, and in 1824 became a store clerk in New Bedford. In 1827, he moved to Troy, New York, and became a merchant. In January 1839, he married Catherine Jane Lewis. In 1852, he became a director of the Bank of Troy, and later was President of the First National Bank of Troy. He also engaged in the lumber trade. He entered politics as a National Republican, became a Whig in 1834, then joined the Know Nothings, and later became a Republican. In 1857, he was elected as Alderman (3rd Ward) of Troy, and was re-elected for many terms. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Rensselaer Co., 1st D.) in 1859 and 1860. Troy is a city in the U.S. state of New York and the county seat of Rensselaer County. The city is located on the western edge of Rensselaer County and on the eastern bank of the Hudson River.
