Rostyslav Hertsyk
Rostyslav Andriyovych Hertsyk ( uk, Ростислав Андрійович Герцик; born 5 July 1989) is a Ukrainian foil fencer. Career He was silver medallist at the Copa Villa La Habana in 2011 and bronze medallist at the Löwe von Bonn in 2012, but narrowly missed the qualifications for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. 42nd in FIE rankings before the 2013 World Fencing Championships, he created an upset by defeating successively Peter Joppich, Race Imboden, and Andrea Cassarà. He lost in the semi-finals by Russia's Artur Akhmatkhuzin and earned a bronze medal. Hertsyk took part in October in the 2013 World Combat Games, but was defeated in the first round by Imboden, who eventually took the silver medal. Fencing
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Race Imboden
Race Imboden (born April 17, 1993) is an American left-handed foil fencer. Imboden is a nine-time team Pan American champion, six-time individual Pan American champion and 2019 team world champion. A three-time Olympian, Imboden is a two-time team Olympic bronze medalist. Imboden competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. In addition to his fencing career, Imboden is also a menswear fashion model. Personal life Imboden was born in Tampa, Florida. His parents gave him his name after the ''Jonny Quest'' character Race Bannon. He moved to Atlanta at a young age. His first sports were inline skating and BMX; an inline skating accident left him with a crooked nose and a scar on his lip. Universiade Medalists In Fencing
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade will be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Artur Kamilevich Akhmatkhuzin (russian: Артур Камилевич Ахматхузин; born 21 May 1988) is a Russian foil fencer, silver medallist at the 2013 World Fencing Championships. Career Akhmatkhuzin, who is of Tatar descent, made his debut in international competition at the 2005 Cadet World Championships in Linz, where he earned a bronze medal. That same year, he joined the cadet and junior national team, in which he won a team gold medal in the 2005 Junior European Championships at Tapolca, a team silver medal in the 2007 Junior European Championship in Prague, and a team bronze medal in the 2007 World European Championships in Belek. Andrea Cassarà (born 3 January 1984) is an Italian left-handed foil fencer, two-time individual European champion, 2011 individual world champion, and three-time Olympics medalist. Cassarà won a bronze medal in the individual men's foil event and a gold medal in the team men's foil event at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and a gold medal in the team men's foil event at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Peter Joppich (born 21 December 1982) is a German foil fencer. Biography Joppich is a five-time World Champion in Foil with four Individual titles and one Team title. He won the gold medal in 2010 World Fencing Championships after beating Lei Sheng 15–11 at Championnats du Monde, Paris. He was also the winner of the World Fencing Championships in St Petersburg in 2007 after beating Andrea Baldini 15–9, Turin in 2006 after beating Baldini 15–14, and Havana in 2003. He won his first World Championship Individual Title when he was just 21 years old.
