Arthur Rosser
Arthur Rosser (16 April 1864 – 15 February 1954) was a notable New Zealand builder, local-body politician and trade unionist. Biography Early life He was born in Oystermouth, Glamorganshire, Wales in 1864. His family migrated to New Zealand when he was eight years old and grew up in the Auckland suburb of Newton. Upon completing his education, Rosser became a builder by trade. Whilst working as a carpenter he married Sarah Louisa Craig on 30 November 1886. Trade union career After he was blacklisted by conservative building contractors due to his links with the Liberal Party, Rosser took up a new career as a union organiser, the first in Auckland. Within twelve years he was involved in the formation of nine new trade unions and was himself the secretary of many of them, demonstrating a skill for arbitration. Palm Island is a locality consisting of an island group of 16 islands, split between the Shire of Hinchinbrook and the Aboriginal Shire of Palm Island, in Queensland, Australia. The locality coincides with the geographical entity known as the Palm Island group, also known as the Greater Palm group, originally named the Palm Isles. Celia Elizabeth Rosser (born 1930) is an Australian botanical illustrator, best known for having published ''The Banksias'', a three-volume series of monographs containing watercolour paintings of every ''Banksia'' species. Born Celia Elizabeth Prince, she began painting Australian wildflowers early in her artistic career. She first began painting ''Banksia''s after seeing a ''Banksia serrata'' near her home in Orbost, Victoria. Her first exhibition was at Leveson Gallery in Melbourne in 1965, and included three watercolours of ''Banksia'' species. Two years later she published ''Wildflowers of Victoria''. In 1970, Rosser was appointed Science Faculty Artist at Monash University. She illustrated Peter Bridgewater's ''The Saltmarsh Plants of Southern Australia'' and ''The Mosses of Southern Australia'' by George Scott and Ilma Grace Stone. Eric Franklin Rosser (born January 17, 1952) also known as Doc Rosser, is a former keyboardist for John Mellencamp. He joined Mellencamp's band in 1979 and toured with Mellencamp for over two years. He recorded with the band on Mellencamp's 1980 album ''Nothin' Matters and What If It Did'' and on ''American Fool'' in 1982, before leaving the band. Rosser is infamous for being on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's " Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list for his involvement in the production and distribution of child pornography in 2000. He had been living in Bangkok at the time and had been on the run due to a failure to appear. He was arrested in August 2001 for carrying false information, and was extradited back to the United States. Hamish Rosser (born 16 May 1974) is an Australian rock musician. He is best known for his time in The Vines and his current position in Wolfmother. Early life Hamish’s musical journey began when he took up the guitar at the age of eight. By the time he turned eleven he had switched to drums and bought his first set of drums with money saved up from a paper round in his Sydney neighbourhood. Rosser's first gig was with high school punk band called "The Warthogs" who covered The Clash, The Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Rosser studied chemical engineering at Sydney University and stayed there for four years until he left to pursue a career as a musician. Melville "Mel" Aaron Rosser sometimes recorded as Melvin and Melvyn (18 April 1901 – 8 September 1988) was a Welsh international rugby centre who played rugby union for Penarth and Cardiff and later turned to professional rugby league joining first Leeds, then Castleford ( Heritage #88), and then York. Rosser played international rugby for Wales under both union and league codes, and toured Australia with the Great Britain rugby league team in 1928. Rugby union career Mel Rosser began his rugby career with his local rugby club Machen RFC, before moving to first class team Cardiff. Richard Andrew Rosser, Baron Rosser (born 5 October 1944) is a British former trade union leader and Labour politician, sitting in the House of Lords. He is the Shadow Spokesperson for Transport and Home Affairs for Labour in the House of Lords. Trade Union career Initially employed by London Transport he joined the staff of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) early in his working career, representing London Transport's white-collar staff in negotiations with the management. He rose through the ranks of the TSSA to be an Assistant General Secretary (one of two, at the time), and in 1989 he was elected General Secretary of the union (i.e. in day-to-day control, but answerable to an elected Executive Committee of lay members, and to the Annual Conference). Susan Rosser FRSB FLSW is a professor of Synthetic Biology at the University of Edinburgh. Rosser’s research focuses on the development of synthetic biology approaches and tools for engineering pathways and genomes in cell systems. Her work has been applied in biologic therapeutics, developing genetic tools for engineering stem cells and bio-computation. Education Rosser studied microbiology and genetics at the University of Dundee. Her Ph.D. was on the mechanisms of multiple antibiotic resistance.
