Rossella Gregorio
Rossella Gregorio (born 30 August 1990) is an Italian sabre fencer, bronze medallist in the 2014 European Fencing Championships. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in sabre. Career Gregorio discovered fencing thanks to family friends who encouraged her parents to let her try the sport. She first trained at CS Salerno, where she was coached by Antonio Serra, before joining Frascati Scherma. Gregorio won the 2009 Junior European Championship in Odense. A year later she became Junior Italian champion. She joined the national team for the 2013 European Championships in Zagreb. She was eliminated in the first round by Germany's Alexandra Bujdoso. In the team event, Italy defeated France, but ceded against Russia in the semi-finals. They edged out Poland in the small final to take the bronze medal, Gregorio's first medal in a senior international event. Salerno
Salerno (, , ; nap, label= Salernitano, Saliernë, ) is an ancient city and ''comune'' in Campania (southwestern Italy) and is the capital of the namesake province, being the second largest city in the region by number of inhabitants, after Naples. Alexandra Bujdoso
Alexandra Bujdoso (born 5 March 1990 in Budapest, Hungary) is a German-Hungarian sabre fencer. She is coached by her father, Imre Bujdosó, a former world class fencer and Olympic champion. While still in the Cadets category, she won the 2005–06 junior Fencing World Cup. At the same time, she took a bronze medal at the Klagenfurt World Cup and reached the quarter-finals at the 2006 World Championships in Turin. She finished the season 11th in senior world rankings, a career best as of 2014. She won in 2008 a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Acireale. Bujdoso took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she was eliminated in the second round by 2004 silver medallist Xue Tan. Sofiya Aleksandrovna Velikaya ( rus, Софья Александровна Великая, , ˈsofʲjə vʲɪˈlʲikəjə; born 8 June 1985) is a Russian sabre fencer. Velikaya is a former European champion (four-time individual, six-time team), world champion (two-time individual, six-time team), and two-time Olympic team champion. She competed in the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympics, and was a three-time individual silver medalist. She dedicated her team's 2016 Olympic gold medal to those Russians who had been banned for doping. Career Velikaya is a Russian Armed Forces captain. 2014–15 Fencing World Cup
The 44th FIE Fencing World Cup began in October 2014 and concluded in July 2015 at the 2015 World Fencing Championships held in Moscow. Season overview This edition was the first to feature the new Grand Prix format, consisting in nine events, three in each weapon, men and women fencing together. World Cup and Grand Prix competitions were spread over ten months instead of six. The calendar overhaul was designed to allow more time for the athletes to train and rest as well as to increase media visibility. The season saw the opening of the qualifying path for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The first competition counting for Olympic qualification was held on the 2 and 3 May for all three weapons, an event dubbed as the "super weekend" in Italy.
