Ross Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
Ross Township is a township in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The township is adjacent to the northern border of Pittsburgh. While most of the township is residential, a retail corridor is located along McKnight Road along with business districts on US Route 19 and Babcock Boulevard. The population of the township was 31,105 at the 2010 census. Ross Township, along with the nearby borough of West View, comprises part of the North Hills School District, and both participate in the multi-municipality Northland Public Library. History On June 26, 1809, John McKnight, along with 30 other residents of Pine Township petitioned the courts of Allegheny for the formation of a new township. Jack And Ed Biddle
Brothers John E. Biddle (January 8, 1872 February 1, 1902) and Edward C. Biddle (December 27, 1876 February 1, 1902) were condemned prisoners who escaped from the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania using tools and weapons supplied to them by the warden's wife, Kate Soffel (June27, 1867August30, 1909) who fled with them.
