Ross James Smith (born 11 April 1985) is an Australian badminton player who specialises in the doubles event. He competed for Australia at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, partnering Glenn Warfe. Swan Hill
Swan Hill is a city in the northwest of Victoria, Australia on the Murray Valley Highway and on the south bank of the Murray River, downstream from the junction of the Loddon River. Badminton At The 2014 Commonwealth Games
Badminton events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games took place between Thursday 24 July and Sunday 3 August at the newly built Emirates Arena, in Glasgow. Badminton is one of ten core sports at the Commonwealth Games and has been continuously held at the Games since its first appearance at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. The badminton programme in 2014 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions alongside a mixed team event throughout the 11 days of competition. The draw for the tournament was held on 21 July in Glasgow. Stadium Southland
ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill, New Zealand is a multi-purpose venue, capable of conducting a wide range of events from large scale concerts to sporting events and exhibitions. Incorporating the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, the stadium complex has hosted a range of national and international events – sporting, recreational, cultural, arts, corporate and even equestrian. The original stadium was completed in May 2000 but in September 2010, a heavy snowfall caused the main stadium roof to collapse, causing substantial structural damage to the complex. Kevin Dennerly-Minturn
Kevin James Dennerly-Minturn (born 18 May 1989) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2014, he competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Dennerly-Minturn is an Auckland player on the international circuit and is also from the College Rifles badminton club. He comes from a very active and sporting family. From an early age he was gifted at a number of sports including cricket but pursued his passion for badminton and is now a key feature of the New Zealand doubles set up. He is based in Denmark for most of the year playing and training in the tough European environment. Sawan Serasinghe
Sawan Serasinghe (born 21 February 1994) is a former badminton player from Australia. He won seven Oceania Championships titles, five in the men's doubles and two in the mixed doubles. Serasinghe competed in the men's doubles event at the 2016 Summer Olympics alongside Matthew Chau. Career Serasinghe started playing badminton since the age of five, he was born in Galle, Sri Lanka, and moved to Australia when he was 11-years-old. He trains at the National Training Centre in Melbourne, and took out back-to-back Oceania Championships titles with Chau in 2015 and 2016. The 22-year-old also won the 2014 Sydney International Challenge mixed doubles with Setyana Mapasa, against some of the best players in the world. Matthew Chau
Matthew Chau (born 9 November 1994) is an Australian badminton player. He was four times men's doubles Oceania Champion winning in 2015–2018. Chau competed in the men's doubles at the 2016 Summer Olympics alongside Sawan Serasinghe. Chau picked up his first badminton racquet at age 10, following his parents to the Monash University Badminton Club where they played socially. The now 22-year-old fell in love with the all rounded nature of the sport and says he enjoys that badminton demands speed, strength, endurance, skill, tactical smarts and hard work from its athletes. Chau first partnered with Serasinghe at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival and the duo went on to secure the Rio quota spot for Australia by winning the 2016 Oceania Championships title. Robin Middleton
Robin Middleton (born 8 February 1985) is an English badminton player currently representing Australia. He was one of the UK's leading badminton players. Born in Leeds in 1985, his interests include cricket, sky diving, and botany. He holds a 2.1 degree from Loughborough University. He was the mixed doubles champion at the 2010 European Circuit Finals partnered with Mariana Agathangelou. Middleton retired from professional badminton in 2011 after a disagreement with employer Badminton England, which rejected his public support for the use of craniology to determine team seeding in competition. Middleton was moving to Australia and becoming a citizen in 2014. He signaled his intention to come out of retirement to play for Australia after a period traveling there, and has since been named in their elite squad.
