Rosen Tantau
Rosen Tantau (also ''RosenWelt Tantau'') is a rose breeding company located at Uetersen, in the District of Pinneberg in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is one of the most important Rose farms worldwide, and has developed a large number of well-known rose cultivars. Founded in 1906 by Mathias Tantau (1882–1953), it became important in the 1930s. In 1948, his son Mathias Tantau jun. (1912–2006) took over. He developed some famous hybrid tea roses, e.g. 'Polarstern', 'Super Star' or 'Fragrant Cloud', earning many rose awards - 'Fragrant Cloud' was awarded the title ''World's Favorite Rose' in 1981. 1985 Mathias Tantau sold the family business to Hans-Jürgen Evers (1940–2007), who had joined Tantau in 1963. From 2000 to 2007 his son Christian Evers was co-manager of the company he is leading today. The company has about 90 employees and 50 sales agencies around the world. Heidi Klum Rose
The Heidi Klum rose is a variety of Floribunda rose from the Tantau company, registered in 1999 with the registration number ''RT 00681''. It was made by crossing ''Old Port'' and ''Barkarole'' roses. The variety was officially named by Heidi Klum (after herself) in 2005. It is a compact, richly flowering rose with a powerful scent. Under normal conditions it reaches a height of 40 to 50 cm. The flowers can reach a size of up to 9 cm, and can have as many as 40 petals. The flower color is predominantly violet and the foliage is green and rich. The Heidi Klum rose can tolerate temperatures as low as –23 °C but is somewhat susceptible to mildew and ''Diplocarpon rosae''. Therefore, it needs regular maintenance. Mainau
Mainau also referred to as Mav(e)no(w), Maienowe (in 1242), Maienow (in 1357), Maienau, Mainowe (in 1394) and Mainaw (in 1580) is an island in Lake Constance (on the Southern shore of the Überlinger See near the city of Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany). ADR Rose
An ADR rose is a winner in the German ADR rose trial (''Allgemeine Deutsche Rosenneuheitenprüfung''). No chemical pesticides have been allowed since 1997 and breeders often describe the trial as among the most challenging in the world.Pellett 2010, p. 167 The trial is set up by a working group that includes the Bund deutscher Baumschulen (German nurseries association), rose breeders, and eleven independent trial stations in Germany. The trial results are analyzed by the Bundessortenamt (Federal Office of Plant Varieties). Roses are tested over three years and criteria analyzed include disease resistance, hardiness, attractiveness, and habit. About 50 cultivars are judged annually and more than 2000 cultivars have been tested since the award's creation in the 1950s. Roses that no longer fulfill quality standards have their certificate removed. As of November 2013, 161 cultivars are recognized. ''Rosa'' Camp David is a red hybrid tea rose Hybrid tea is an informal horticultural classification for a group of garden roses. The first hybrid tea roses were created in France in the mid-1800s, by cross-breeding the large, floriferous Hybrid Perpetuals with the tall, elegant Tea roses. ... developed by Mathias Tantau, Jr. in 1984. Description The cultivar forms nearly black buds, which turn a deep red when blooming – and retain that color better under sun exposure than many other red roses. The fragrant flowers have an average diameter of about 13 cm and conserve their elegant form for a long time. Due to their solitary growth, they are used as cut flowers as well as in gardens. The robust shrubs are of average height (~1.5 m), very weather and disease resistant and bloom in flushes throughout the season.
