Rose Meza Harrison
Rose Meza Harrison (born July 27, 1953) is a Democratic politician and Democratic nominee for U.S. Representative in the 27th Congressional District of Texas. Personal life Rose Meza Harrison was born in Benavides, Texas, a small ranching town in Duval County. Her father worked in the oilfields and was involved in drilling wells across the state for more than 20 years. Her mother stayed home to raise eight children and ensure that they received quality educations. After divorce left her a single mother of three, Rose put herself through college, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Political Science from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Once her youngest child graduated high school, she entered law school and earned a JD from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2003. Benavides, Texas
Benavides ( ) is a city in Duval County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census, down from 1,686 at the 2000 census. History The town is named after Plácido Benavides (1837–1919), namesake nephew of Plácido Benavides (1810–1837), Tejano 1832 alcalde of Victoria, who served under Stephen F. Austin with Juan Seguin, in the Siege of Béxar. Plácido Benavides whom the town is named after served in the Confederate States Army. After the war, he built his "Rancho Palo Alto" into one of the largest ranches in Duval County. In 1880, he agreed to let the county locate a railroad station on his property. In 1881, he donated to establish the community that grew up around the station on the Texas Mexican Railway. In 1882 Archie Parr arrived to manage the Sweden Ranch for the Lott & Nielson Pasture Company. The ''Corpus Christi Caller-Times'' is the newspaper of record for Corpus Christi, Texas. History There has been a newspaper in Corpus Christi for almost as long as there has been a town. In 1883, the ''Caller'' was started in a frame building at 310 North Chaparral, now the site of Green's Jewelers. Roy Miller was editor of the ''Caller'' 1907–1911, when it was an enterprise of the King Ranch; he sold his interest in it in 1929. Later, there was a newspaper called the ''Times''. Both were located on North Chaparral in 1920. In the late 1920s, the two were combined to become the ''Caller-Times''.
