Rose Bay is a harbourside, eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rose Bay is located seven kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of Waverley Council (east of Old South Head Road) and Municipality of Woollahra (on its western side towards the bay). Geography Rose Bay has views of both the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge together. Lyne Park abuts Sydney Harbour on its west. Shark Island is located in Sydney Harbour, just north of Rose Bay. History Rose Bay was named after the Right Honourable George Rose, who was joint Secretary to the British Treasury with Thomas Steele, after whom Steel(e) Point at Nielsen Park was named. Rose Bay is a suburb of the City of Clarence in greater Hobart, capital city of Tasmania, Australia. Rose Bay is a small suburb, making up only approximately 0.9 square kilometres with nearly one fourth of that area (23.2%) being parkland. At the 2016 Census the suburb recorded a population of 1,102 people. Geography Rose Bay is a suburb located on the Eastern Shore of the River Derwent. It is a suburb less than four kilometres from the city centre of greater Hobart. The size of Rose Bay is approximately 0.9 square kilometres of which nearly one fourth (23.2%) is covered by parkland. Rose Bay is partly surrounded by the River Derwent with land access from the city via the Tasman Bridge. The suburb can be accessed via the north if coming along East Derwent Highway and from the east and south primarily via the Tasman Highway. Rose Bay Secondary College (RBSC) is a government-funded co-educational dual modality partially academically selective and comprehensive secondary day school, located in Dover Heights, an eastern Sydney suburb of New South Wales, Australia. The New South Wales Department of Education established the college in 2003 as a result of the merger of Dover Heights and Vaucluse high schools. The catchment includes the South Head Peninsula and Northern area of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney and is roughly bounded by Sydney Harbour to the north, Randwick to the south, Surry Hills to the West and the Pacific Ocean to the east. Rose Bay Water Airport (IATA: RSE) is a water airport located in the Sydney suburb of Rose Bay, New South Wales, Australia. It is eight kilometres from the city centre and is one of two water airports in Sydney, the other being Palm Beach Water Airport. History On 4 August 1938, Rose Bay Water Airport was officially opened. However, it already had been established as a flying boat base on a 'temporary basis', and was the starting point for the Sydney to London flights that were operated by Qantas Empire Airways and Imperial Airways in a codeshare agreement.
