Rosamund Lupton
Rosamund Lupton (née Orde-Powlett), is a British author. She studied literature at Cambridge University. She is perhaps best known for her novels ''Sister'', ''Afterwards, The Quality of Silence and Three Hours'' Early life and family Lupton was born 22 July 1964, the daughter of the Hon. Patrick Christopher Orde-Powlett, son of Nigel Amyas Orde-Powlett, 6th Baron Bolton of Bolton Castle. On 1 May 1999 she married Martin G.F. Lupton, son of Geoffrey Charles Martineau Lupton (b.1930) who was the grandson of Leeds Lord Mayor Hugh Lupton. Career In her first novel ''Sister'', Lupton tells the story of Beatrice, living in New York, in search for Tess, her missing sister, who lives in London. ''Sister'' sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. It has been translated in 30 languages, and it is a best-seller on the ''New York Times'' and '' Sunday Times'' lists. Baron Bolton
Baron Bolton, of Bolton Castle in the County of York, is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. It was created in 1797 for the Tory politician Thomas Orde-Powlett, who had previously served as Chief Secretary for Ireland. Born Thomas Orde, he was the husband of Jean Mary Browne-Powlett, illegitimate daughter of Charles Powlett, 5th Duke of Bolton, who had entailed the greater part of his extensive estates to her in default of male issue of his younger brother Harry Powlett, 6th Duke of Bolton. John Orde, younger brother of the first Baron Bolton, was an Admiral in the Royal Navy and was created a baronet, of Morpeth in the County of Northumberland, in 1790. The sixth Duke died without male heirs in 1794 when the dukedom became extinct and the Bolton estates passed to Thomas Orde in right of his wife. In 1795 he assumed the additional surname of Powlett. Bolton Castle
Bolton Castle is a 14th-century castle located in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, England (). The nearby village of Castle Bolton takes its name from the castle. The castle is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War, and “slighted” afterwards, but much of it survived. It has never been sold and is still in the ownership of the descendants of the Scrope family. History The castle was built between 1378 and 1399 by Richard, 1st Baron Scrope of Bolton, and is an example of a quadrangular castle. The licence to build it was granted in July 1379 and a contract with the mason John Lewyn was made in September 1378. Construction was reputed to cost 18,000 Marks. The Lupton family in Yorkshire achieved prominence in ecclesiastical and academic circles in England in the Tudor era through the fame of Roger Lupton, provost of Eton College and chaplain to Henry VII and Henry VIII. Carlton Television (now part of the non-franchised ITV London region) was the ITV franchise holder for London and the surrounding counties from 9.25am every Monday to 5.15pm every Friday.
