Rosamund Colman
Rosamund Victoria Colman née; Salusbury (June 1885 – 1950) was a Welsh golf and tennis player and a member of the Salusbury family. She competed at the Wimbledon Championships 1910 and 1911. She was active from 1905 to 1912 and won 18 career singles titles. Tennis career Rosamund was born in June 1885 on the Bach-y-graig Estate, St Asaph, Denbighshire, Wales, the daughter of Edward Pemeberton Salusbury Esq and Julia Melville Smith. Rosamund started playing tournaments around 1904/5 though she mainly competed at events on the French Riviera circuit, the Italian Riviera, in Germany and in Switzerland. In 1909 she was residing in Dover, Kent, England. She competed at the 1910 Wimbledon Championships where she lost in the second round to Winifred McNair, and at the 1911 Wimbledon Championships where she reached the third round, but was beaten by Marie Hazel. The French Switzerland Championships or Championnats de Suisse romande was a men's and women's open international clay court tennis tournament founded in 1905. It was first staged at the Le Montreux Palace Lawn Tennis Club, Le Montreux Palace Hotel, Montreux, Switzerland. The championships ran until 1948. History The French Switzerland Championships were established in September 1905 and first played at the Tennis Club du Montreux Palace. In 1908 the event was moved to the Tennis Club de Montreux. During World War I the tournament was only held two times, then resuming fully in 1920. During World War II it was not held from 1939 to 1941, but resumed thereafter. John Salusbury Piozzi Salusbury
Sir John Salusbury Piozzi Salusbury (9 September 1793 – 18 December 1858) was a British civil servant and, briefly, a military officer during the Battle of Waterloo. He was named after his adopted grandfather, Sir John Salusbury. Early life John Salusbury Piozzi Salusbury was born to Giovanni Battista Piozzi in Milan, Italy. His father was a member of the Italian nobility who held significant tracts of land outside Milan. During the Napoleonic Wars, the family had been driven from their home by Napoleon's invasion of Milanese territory, which deprived them of an income. Giovanni named his eldest son "John Salusbury Piozzi" after the father of the wealthy and influential Hester Piozzi, the wife of Giovanni Battista Piozzi's brother Gabriel Mario Piozzi, in the hope that Hester would provide the family with assistance. The North of England Championships and later known as the Rothmans Open North of England Championships (for sponsorship reasons), was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1884 as the North Yorkshire Tournament. It was mainly held at Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Great Britain from (1884–91, 1893–1903, 1905–1966, 1968). The tournament was discontinued in 1974 when it was staged at Hoylake. The Hamburg European Open (formerly ''German Open Tennis Championships'') is an annual tennis tournament for professional players held in Hamburg, Germany and part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour.
