Rosamma Chacko
Rosamma Chacko (17 March 1927 – 14 March 2019) was an Indian National Congress politician from Kerala. She was thrice a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, each time from a different constituency. Early life Rosamma Chacko was born on 17 March 1927 to C. Chacko and Mariamma Chacko. She held degrees in Hindi language and literature. Career Chacko was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party and was included in the executive committee of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee in 1956. From 1960 to 1963, she served as its president. She was also a member of the Standing Committee of All India Women's Conference and vice-president of Indian Red Cross Society beside being the chairperson of the Social Welfare Board. During the 1987 Kerala Legislative Assembly election for the Eighth state assembly, she stood and won from the Idukki as an official candidate of the INC. All India Women's Conference
The All India Women's Conference (AIWC) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Delhi. It was founded in 1927 by Margaret Cousins in order to improve educational efforts for women and children and has expanded its scope to also tackle other women's rights issues. The organisation is one of the oldest women's groups in India and has branches throughout the country. History The All India Women's Conference (AIWC) was founded in 1927 in Pune in order to promote women and children's education and social welfare. Margaret Cousins had called for the creation of an organisation as early as late 1925 by writing to other women's groups and to friends to come together to discuss education for women. 1987 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The elections to the Eighth Kerala Assembly were held on March 23, 1987. The UDF and the LDF were the two major political fronts in the arena. The UDF had the INC(I), IUML, KC(J), KC(M), NDP (P), SRP(S) and the RSP(S) as its constituents. The LDF consisted of the CPI(M), CPI, RSP, IC(S), Janata Party and the Lok Dal. Background Kerala saw polarisation and splits of political forces since the formation of the United Democratic Front Ministry on May 24, 1982.
