Root Division is an American arts nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2002, and located in the Mid-Market/South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. They offer a gallery space, exhibition opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists, art classes, artist residencies, and art studio space. About The Root Division is located in a building at 1131 Mission Street at 7th Street in Mid-Market, and offer a gallery space for rotating exhibitions. Many of their exhibitions are led by independent and emerging curators, as well as hosting art fundraisers and auctions. Art classes hosted are for both adults and youth. It has 22 artists’ studios, occupied by some 28 artists (some studios are shared). The Root Division artist residencies last for up to 2 years. Julie Weitz
Julie Weitz (born in 1979 in Chicago) is an American visual artist from Los Angeles. Weitz was trained as a painter and taught painting at the University of South Florida for eight years. She began to experiment with video in 2010. Her recent work concerns the experience of the self in the modern world, where virtual and embodied experiences mingle. Besides digital editing tools, Weitz has used various physical materials to create videos, including paint, smoke, prefabricated sculpture, and the human body. She has also collaborated with musicians, including Paul Reller and Benjamin Wynn. Weitz's interactive installation Touch Museum (Young Projects Gallery, 2015) garnered national attention, with features in Artforum, the Los Angeles Times, Gizmodo, and on radio station KCRW. Katie Vida
Katie Vida is an American interdisciplinary artist, curator and arts educator based in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for her performance art, installation art, film, and sound art but also known to create paintings and sculptures. Biography Vida attended Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. In 2010 she graduated from Yale University with her Master of Fine Arts in painting. Often Vida's work references artists that have come before her, such as Judy Garland and Marina Abramović. Keyvan Heydari-Shovir (Persian:; born September 1985), also known as CK1, is an Iranian-born contemporary artist, and street artist. His work combines Iranian traditional culture with contemporary pop culture, and he is a pioneer of Iranian graffiti art. He lives in Los Angeles, and previously lived in San Francisco and Tehran. Noah Scalin (born June 2, 1972) is an American artist, known for his creation of the award winning Skull-A-Day art project weblog. He co-runs the art & innovation consulting firm that he founded Another Limited Rebellion in Richmond, Virginia with his sister Mica Scalin.
