Roosevelt Stadium (Union City)
Roosevelt Stadium was an American outdoor sports facility located in Union City, New Jersey. The stadium was built in 1936 and demolished in 2005 so Union City High School could be built on the site. After the school was built, its athletic complex was also named Roosevelt Stadium; the current field is located atop the school. It is not to be confused with the former baseball park of the same name in neighboring Jersey City, New Jersey. History Originally the site of the Hudson County Consumers Brewery Company, the property was purchased by what is now Union City for US$456,000, and turned it into a gated playground. Later, through the efforts of Director of Public Affairs Harry J. Thourot, the stadium's construction was funded by the federal Works Progress Administration Project, which awarded the project US$172,472, as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. Union Hill High School was a public high school serving students in grades 9–12 from Union City in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, operating as one of two high schools of the Union City Board of Education, an Abbott District. The school was built in—and named for—what was formerly Union Hill, New Jersey, a municipality which merged with West Hoboken in 1925 to form Union City. Until 2008, Union Hill was one of the city's two high schools, with the former Emerson High School the other. The Union Hill and Emerson campuses continued to serve high school students for an additional year as separate campuses of the new Union City High School, after which that school's main campus was completed and both schools were converted to their current designation.
