''Room for Improvement'' is an Australian lifestyle television series aired on the Seven Network from 2000 until 2003. It was hosted by Scott McGregor and later Tom Williams. It also featured presenters Kate Ryerson, Alex Zaharov-Reutt, Craig Russell, Rob Palmer and Sophie Ward. Series One and Series Two were directed by Helen Parker. This premise of the series is that homeowners receive a surprise makeover to a room in their house while they are away. The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network. It is owned by Seven West Media, Seven West Media Limited, and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. The network's headquarters are located in Sydney. As of 2014, it is the second-largest network in the country in terms of population reach. The Seven Network shows various nonfiction shows—such as news broadcasts (''Seven News'') and sports programing—as well as fiction shows. In 2011, the network won all 40 out of 40 weeks of the ratings season for total viewers, being the first to achieve this since the introduction of the OzTAM ratings system in 2001. Scott McGregor (television Presenter)
Scott McGregor (born 22 October 1957) is an Australian actor, television presenter and is now the managing director of the tour company 'Railway Adventures', which specialises in international and domestic tours by rail. Early life Scott McGregor was born in Orange, New South Wales where his parents Douglas and Joyce McGregor owned a farm and managed '' The Central Western Daily'' newspaper. In 1969 the family moved to Mudgee when his parents purchased the ''Mudgee Guardian''. Scott was educated at Mudgee High School and The Scots College in Sydney. He commenced studying communications at the then Mitchell College of Advanced Education in Bathurst. Tom Williams (presenter)
Thomas Williams (born 16 October 1970, Sydney) is an Australian television personality and radio presenter. Williams had previously been a co-host of ''The Daily Edition'' and a long-time presenter for the Seven Sport team. Career Williams graduated from the Jesuit St Aloysius' College and worked as a construction worker, model and competed in surf lifesaving championships. One of Williams' first appearances on television was in the video clip of Melissa Tkautz's debut song " Read My Lips". The turning point in Williams' life occurred in 2000, when he phoned into a radio show hosted by comic duo Merrick & Rosso. His style interested them so much that he was given a regular segment on the show, which eventually led to an on-air role as a builder on the Seven Network renovation show '' Room for Improvement''. ''Backyard Blitz'' is a Logie Award winning Australian lifestyle and DIY television program that aired on the Nine Network between 2000 through to 2007 before its cancellation. It was hosted by Jamie Durie and was created by Don Burke and produced by his CTC Productions team. Overview The show featured a very similar premise to the show ''Ground Force'', in which a team of gardeners employed by the show descend on a supposedly worthy individual's place and improve the garden for the cameras within a specified time limit. This similarity led to legal action being taken by the rival Seven Network, which at the time was set to debut an Australian version of ''Ground Force''. Seven ultimately lost its claim as Don Burke's CTC was able to argue that Burke's previous program ''Burke's Backyard'' had featured backyard garden renovations which they claimed naturally morphed into the ''Backyard Blitz'' concept. ''Changing Rooms'' is an Australian lifestyle/home renovating television series which is based on the British series of the same name. Originally hosted by Suzie Wilks, it aired on the Nine Network from 1998 to 2005. It was part of a wave of many home improvement and lifestyle shows that were popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A short-lived revival of the show premiered on 13 February 2019 on Channel 10 and WIN, hosted by Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Original series The premise of the show involved two couples who would swap houses, and with a tight budget of $ AU1,500 and just two days, would renovate one room in each other's house with the aid of a carpenter and professional designer.
