Max Rooke
Max Rooke (born Jarad Maxwell Rooke on 19 December 1981) is a former Australian rules footballer, who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A utility player, tall and weighing , Rooke's versatility allowed him to play as a forward, defender, and midfielder. Rooke made his AFL debut in 2002, and was awarded the 2003 Geelong Football Club most determined and dedicated player award. He went on to become a dual premiership player with the club, playing key roles in both the 2007 and 2009 Grand Final victories. Rooke also won two NAB Cups and two McClelland Trophies with Geelong. Denis Rooke
Sir Denis Eric Rooke (2 April 1924 – 2 September 2008) was an English industrialist and engineer. Early life Denis Eric Rooke was born in New Cross, London, the younger son of Frederick George Rooke, a printer and travelling salesman, and his wife Ada Emily née Brown. He attended Westminster City School and Addey and Stanhope School before studying mechanical engineering at University College London, taking a first-class degree in 1944. He then served in REME in Britain and India until 1949, attaining the rank of major. He studied for a postgraduate diploma in chemical engineering at University College which he was awarded in 1949. He married Brenda Evans (born 1922) on 22 January 1949 in Deptford, London.She was an investigator providing research services, and they had a daughter, Diana. Jessie Rooke
Jessie Spink Rooke (10 September 1845 – 4 January 1906) was a suffragette and temperance reformer in Tasmania, Australia, and one of the first Tasmanian women to gain recognition outside Tasmania. Life Jessie Rooke was born in London on September 10, 1845, to William Walker and Catherine Scollay. Rooke moved to Melbourne, and in 1867, she married New Zealander Peter Charles Reid. After he died, she married widower Charles Rooke on August 14, 1883. The Rookes moved to Tasmania in the early 1890s, and Jessie Rooke became involved with the Burnie Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). She was elected president in 1894. The WCTU emerged as leaders of the Tasmanian suffrage campaign. Ronnie Rooke
Ronald Leslie Rooke (7 December 1911 – 9 June 1985) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. During his three decades' playing career he scored at least 931 goals in 1029 official matches, among which more than 765 league goals at all levels. According to the RSSSF he is the best league goalscorer of all time, and the third overall behind Erwin Helmchen and Josef Bican. Playing career Rooke was born in Guildford, Surrey, and began his playing career with local club Guildford City. He then had a spell with Woking in 1932–33 during which he scored 29 goals from 16 appearances in all competitions. In 1933, he joined Crystal Palace, who were at the time in the Third Division South. Daphne Marie Rooke (née Pizzey) (6 March 1914 – 21 January 2009 ) was a South African author of works such as "Mittee", "Ratoons" and "Wizards' Country". She also wrote travel articles and books for children set in India, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Biography Daphne Rooke was born in Boksburg, Transvaal Province, Transvaal; the youngest of six children born to an Afrikaaner mother. Leon Rooke, CM (born September 11, 1934) is a Canadian novelist. He was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina in the United States. Educated at the University of North Carolina, he moved to Canada in 1969. He now lives in Toronto, Ontario. Rooke helped to found the Eden Mills Writers' Festival in 1989. In 2002, Rooke championed ''The Stone Angel'' by Margaret Laurence in that year's edition of ''Canada Reads''. Rooke's work also appears in Blackbird: an online journal of literature and the arts. In 2007, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. George Rooke
Admiral of the Fleet Sir George Rooke (1650 – 24 January 1709) was an English naval officer. As a junior officer he saw action at the Battle of Solebay and again at the Battle of Schooneveld during the Third Anglo-Dutch War. As a captain, he conveyed Prince William of Orange to England and took part in the Battle of Bantry Bay during the Williamite War in Ireland. As a flag officer, Rooke commanded a division of the Royal Navy during their defeat at the Battle of Beachy Head. He also commanded a division at the Battle of Barfleur and distinguished himself at the Battle of La Hogue. He was later defeated while escorting a convoy at the Battle of Lagos. Rooke commanded the unsuccessful allied expedition against Cádiz but on the passage home he destroyed the Spanish treasure fleet at the Battle of Vigo Bay in the opening stages of the War of the Spanish Succession. Thomas Charles Byde Rooke
Thomas Charles Byde Rooke (18 May 1806 – 28 November 1858) was an English physician who married into the royal family of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He built a mansion called the Rooke House in Honolulu that became popular with political and social leaders of the Kingdom. Life He was born on 18 May 1806 in Bengeo, Hertfordshire, England. His father was Thomas Rooke (1769–1814) and mother was Sarah Paillet Draper (died 1815). Irene Rooke (born Irene Bessie Ingaretha Rooke; 30 May 1874 – 14 June 1958) was an English theatre and film actress from Bridport, Dorset, England. Stage career She was the daughter of a prominent London journalist. Rooke left boarding school in 1896 and went directly on the stage. Unlike many novices, she achieved quick success as an actress.
