Roni Margulies
Roni Margulies (May 5, 1955 – July 19, 2023) was a Turkish poet, author, translator and political activist resident in London. Early life Margulies was born in Istanbul to a Jewish family. His maternal grandparents were Sephardic Jews from İzmir and his paternal grandparents were Ashkenazi Jews from Poland who settled in Turkey in 1925. Margulies attended the English-medium Robert College and moved to London in 1972 to study Economics. He has lived in London ever since, although he has spent an increasing amount of time in Istanbul in recent years. Literary career Margulies started writing poetry in 1991 and won the prestigious Yunus Nadi Poetry Award in 2002 with his book of poems, ''Saat Fark'' (Time Difference). He has published selected translations of the poetry of Ted Hughes, Philip Larkin and Yehuda Amichai in Turkish, as well as Hughes’ ''Birthday Letters''. Revolutionary Socialist Workers' Party (Turkey)
The Revolutionary Socialist Workers' Party ( tr, Devrimci Sosyalist İşçi Partisi, DSİP) is a Trotskyist party in Turkey. It was founded by Şevket Doğan Tarkan and his friends from Trotskyist journal ''Socialist Worker'' in 1997. The group had links to far-left Kurtuluş Hareketi (Liberation Movement) before the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. An opposition grouping within DSİP named ''Anti-capitalist (Turkey), Antikapitalist'' was formed following a split in DSİP. The group had no relation with DSİP after that split. The party did not participate in elections in Turkey but supported left-wing electoral alliances. At the 2007 Turkish general election, 2007 elections, they declared support for the independent candidates of Democratic Society Party. Tony Cliff
Tony Cliff (born Yigael Glückstein, he, יגאל גליקשטיין; 20 May 1917 – 9 April 2000) was a Trotskyist activist. Born to a Jewish family in Palestine, he moved to Britain in 1947 and by the end of the 1950s had assumed the pen name of Tony Cliff. A founding member of the Socialist Review Group, which became the International Socialists and then the Socialist Workers Party, in 1977 Cliff was effectively the leader of all three. Biography Tony Cliff was born Yigael Glückstein in Zikhron Ya'akov in the Ottoman Empire's Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem (in what is now Israel), in 1917, the same year Britain seized control of the territory from the Ottoman Empire during World War I. ''Birthday Letters'' is a 1998 poetry collection by English poet and children's writer Ted Hughes. Released only months before Hughes's death, the collection won multiple prestigious literary awards. This collection of eighty-eight poems is widely considered to be Hughes's most explicit response to the suicide of his estranged wife Sylvia Plath in 1963, and to their widely discussed, politicized and "explosive" marriage. Background Until the publication of this book, 35 years after Plath's suicide, Hughes had said and published nearly nothing about his relationship and life with Plath. When it was discovered that he had infidelities while with Plath and had destroyed some of Plath's works after her death, some critics depicted him as a monster and Plath as a victim.
