''Roni Griffith'' is the debut album by Hi-NRG/ disco/pop music singer Roni Griffith, recorded and released in 1982 on Vanguard Records. Her first album includes backing singers, Wendell Morrison and his wife Marian Rolle and Leanora Logan, who were with The Salsoul Orchestra at that time on their last album, ''Heat It Up''; plus Connie Harvey, who was the disco bands, Dazzle and Poussez!, and Janet Wright who was with the disco/soul band, Inner Life on the Prelude Records album, ''I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)''. It was produced by Bobby Orlando, who played all of the instruments on her album. This album features a few cuts, "Desire", "Love Is The Drug" and the cover of The Ronettes tune, "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up". After that, she left Vanguard Records to focus more on Christian life and pursue her career as a Contemporary Christian artist. Roni Griffith is an American former 1980s disco musician and model from Bloomington, Indiana. Career She was one of the original Coconuts in the popular 1980s group Kid Creole and the Coconuts. They opened up for The B-52's, Huey Lewis and the News and appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1981. Finding success as a musician the same year she appeared on SNL with Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Griffith decided to go solo, signing a recording contract with Vanguard Records and producer, Bobby Orlando. By the end of 1982 she had a music recording sales certification, platinum and music recording sales certification, gold record for her hit record, hits "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" and "Desire". Prelude Records was a New York-based independent record label that was active from 1976 to 1986. At one time, François Kevorkian held an A&R position at Prelude. The label's owner was Marvin Schlachter. History Prelude was first launched in 1976, renamed from Pye International Records, a US division of UK-based Pye Records which had begun in 1974. The name was derived from the music group Prelude, which recorded for Pye at the time. At the outset, Prelude's LP and 45 catalogue numbers were the same as had begun under Pye (US), with the prefix changed from PYE- to PRL-. The Ronettes
The Ronettes were an American girl group from Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York City. The group consisted of lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. They had sung together since they were teenagers, then known as "The Darling Sisters". Signed first by Colpix Records in 1961, they moved to Phil Spector's Philles Records in March 1963 and changed their name to "The Ronettes". The Salsoul Orchestra
The Salsoul Orchestra was the backing Band (music), band of session musicians for many acts on the New York City label Salsoul Records and, under its own name, recorded several hit singles and albums between 1975 and 1982. History The orchestra was formed in 1974 and was disbanded in 1982. Their music featured elements of Philadelphia soul, funk, Latin music (genre), Latin and disco.
