Ronald Van Prooijen
Ronald van Prooijen http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/heavymetalears/files/ was the original singer of the Dutch heavy metal band Picture (band), Picture. Ronald started out in the band ''Fragma''. He originally sang and played a little guitar but decided to stick to singing. He had been hanging around with Laurens Bakker and Rinus Vreugdenhil as they went through various incarnations of what was to become Picture. By 1979, he and Jan Bechtum had joined the band for their first stable (and the classic) lineup. He finally left the band after the second album. Ronald's main influence was Rainbow (rock band), Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio as the singer. In late 2007, Ronald and the original members of Picture teamed up for a reunion rehearsal. It went so well that they decided to continue rehearsing for some concert dates, and considered recording a new album in early 2008. Picture (band)
Picture is one of the first Dutch heavy metal music, heavy metal bands. Formed in 1979, they were especially popular in the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for their live performances, and still have a fan base in South America, Mexico and Japan. Picture supported AC/DC, Ted Nugent and Saxon (band), Saxon in the Netherlands. With Saxon, they did a full European tour in 1981. Later on they toured with Rose Tattoo in Germany and headlined tours in Italy and Israel. Biography Rinus Vreugdenhil and Laurens Bakker originally got together in 1978 and started jamming with various musicians. It was not until 1979 that the classic lineup of Vreugdenhil, Bakker, Jan Bechtum, and Ronald van Prooijen came together. Early on in Picture's career they were produced by Cat Music. Laurens Bakker
Laurens Bakker is the original drummer for the Dutch heavy metal band Picture. Laurens, known as "Bakkie," started playing drums in various bands including Fase 5 and then John Ridge and Coccoon. In 1977, he met up with Rinus Vreugdenhil and with various musicians, started Picture. By 1979, Jan Bechtum and Ronald van Prooijen had joined the band for their first stable (and the classic) lineup. He remained with the band through their Eternal Dark album, but had to leave for personal reasons, as the gruel of touring, their bad luck with management, and having to support a family took a toll. Laruens' influences included Carmine Appice, Vinnie Appice, John Bonham, Phil Rudd, and Cozy Powell. He used a Rogers Drums nine piece, double bass set and Paiste cymbals. Rinus Vreugdenhil
Rinus Vreugdenhil (born 1951) http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/heavymetalears/files/ is the bass player and longest standing member of the Dutch heavy metal band Picture. Rinus started out in the band Lemming as the bass player and sound mixer. He chose bass because he liked the low sound. In 1977, he met up with Laurens Bakker and with various musicians, started Picture. By 1979, Jan Bechtum and Ronald van Prooijen had joined the band for their first stable (and the classic) lineup. Throughout various lineup changes, he carried the torch and kept Picture going until the final breakup. He felt there was still some life left in the band but with so many personnel changes and the changing music scene, he had to let it go. Rinus' influences included Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, and Frank Zappa. He used a Gibson Firebird bass and Sound City, Dynacord and later on, Peavey amps. Jan Bechtum
Jan Bechtumhttp://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/heavymetalears/files/ (born 15 June 1958, Spijkenisse) is a Dutch guitarist and composer. Bechtum was the first lead guitarist of Picture. He was influenced by Deep Purple, (mainly Ritchie Blackmore), Yes and Genesis. In 1979 after having played in a few local bands, he got involved with Picture and was responsible for writing most of the songs for their first three albums. He left the band for personal reasons in 1983, right after their tour in Israel. In 1992 and 1993, he performed in the gospel rock band Changed where he played with drummer Mark Maas. When that band stopped in 1993, Bechtum and Maas decided to try something and reformed Picture. With bass player Johannes Adema and vocalist Michel Zandbergen, the band recorded a demo and did a few good shows in the Netherlands. Rainbow (also known as Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow or Blackmore's Rainbow) are a British rock supergroup, formed in London and Los Angeles in 1975 by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Established in the aftermath of Blackmore's first departure from Deep Purple, they originally featured four members of the band Elf, including their singer Ronnie James Dio, but after their self-titled debut album, Blackmore fired these members, except Dio, recruiting new members, including drummer Cozy Powell. Ronnie James Dio
Ronald James Padavona (July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010), known professionally as Ronnie James Dio, was an American heavy metal singer. He fronted and founded numerous bands throughout his career, including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Though his parents were from Cortland, New York, Dio was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where his family resided for his father's service in the U.S. Army during World War II. The family returned to Cortland when Dio was very young, and he lived there until graduating high school in 1960.
