Ronald Charles Grant, 10th Baron De Longueuil
Ronald Charles Grant, 10th Baron de Longueuil (13 March 1888 – 12 July 1959) was a British soldier and peer. He was born in Pau, France, the son of John Moore Charles de Bienville Grant. He married Ernestine Hester Maud Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Hon. Ernest Bowes-Lyon and Isobel Hester Drummond, on 4 October 1918. He was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey. He was in the French Foreign Legion and was a civil engineer. He succeeded to the title of Baron de Longueuil on 17 October 1935. He fought in the Second World War as an officer in the service of the 3rd Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Pau (, ) is a Communes of France, commune overlooking the Pyrenees, and prefecture of the Departments of France, department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, regions of France, region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The city is located in the heart of the former sovereign principality of Béarn, of which it was the capital from 1464. Pau lies on the Gave de Pau, and is located from the Atlantic Ocean and from Spain. Ernestine Bowes-Lyon
Ernestine Hester Maude Bowes-Lyon, Baroness de Longueuil (19 December 1891 – 6 January 1981) was born at Glamis Castle in Scotland, one of five children; her father Ernest Bowes-Lyon (son of the 13th Earl of Strathmore) died ten days after her birth, two days after Christmas, in a riding accident. He was a diplomat serving as a consul in Belgrade. Her mother was a Drummond, of the family of Drummonds Bank. Early life Ernestine was born on 19 December 1891 as the youngest daughter of Ernest Bowes-Lyon (1858–1891) and his wife, Isobel Hester Drummond (1860–1945). The Royal College of Elizabeth, better known as Elizabeth College, is a co-educational independent school in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. Baron de Longueuil () is a title of French nobility that was granted originally by King Louis XIV of France to a Norman military officer, Charles le Moyne de Longueuil. Its continuing recognition since the cession of Canada by France to Britain is based on the Treaty of Paris (1763), which reserved to those of French descent all rights which they had enjoyed before the cession. Navarrenx (; oc, Navarrencs, ; eu, Nabarrengose, eu, label=Zuberoan, Nabarrenkoxe) is a town and commune in the French department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques ( Béarn) and the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The demonym is Navarre. Since 2014, the town has been in the association Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Etymology The name Navarrenx comes from ''sponda Navarrensi'', meaning the "bedstead of Navarre" or "House of the Navarreses". Charles James Irwin Grant, 6th Baron De Longueuil
Charles James Irwin Grant, only son of Charles William Grant, 5th Baron de Longueuil and Caroline Coffin, was born in Montreal Montreal ( ; officially Montréal, ) is the List of the largest municipalities in Canada by population, second-most populous city in Canada and List of towns in Quebec, most populous city in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian ... on 1 April 1815. He served in the 79th Regiment as a lieutenant for a while. Charles William Grant, 5th Baron De Longueuil
Charles William Grant was born in 1782. He was the son of Captain David Alexander Grant and Marie-Charles-Joseph Le Moyne, Baronne de Longueuil. He served during the War of 1812 as Lieutenant Colonel of the Boucherville militia battalion and as a staff officer. He was taken prisoner by the Americans on 8 December 1813, and was held hostage in Worcester, Massachusetts. He married Caroline Coffin, daughter of General John Coffin (judge), John Coffin and Anne Mathews, on 21 May 1814. He became a member of the Legislative Council of Lower Canada. He succeeded to the title of Baron de Longueuil on 17 January 1841. He died on 5 July 1848 at his residence of Alwington House in Kingston, Ontario, Kingston. John Coffin (judge)
John Coffin (c. 1751 – May 12, 1838) was an army officer, merchant, judge and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented King's in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1785 to 1816. He was born in Boston, the son of Nathaniel Coffin and Elizabeth Barnes. Coffin entered the British Army and fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He became a major in the Orange Rangers in 1777, serving in New Jersey and New York, and later transferred to the New York Volunteers, which saw action in Georgia and South Carolina. In 1781, he married Ann Mathews. Coffin became a major in the King's American Regiment in 1782. In 1783, he was placed on half pay and brought his family to what is now New Brunswick. Coffin acquired a large estate from Beamsley Perkins Glasier, where he built a grist mill and a sawmill. He also sold fish, lumber and rum.
